Confused About Google's List, Link Dampening, & No. of Links?

I recently received another 'please help' mail from a gentleman called Ian who runs a journey organization in Tanzania (http://www.betheladventure.co.uk ). Ian was concerned with the consequence of the variety of problems including indexing and url dampening, and was eager for help. Unfortunately, he had read some pretty misleading articles in the past, so he had a somewhat confused understanding of the facets at play. Ian's e-mail consisted of a few issues. I've shown each independently below, followed by my reaction.

Q: When I seek out how many backlinks to my website using 'link:www.betheladventure.co.uk', I see only 2-3 results. It seems that only 23 of our backlinks have survived Google's dampening link filter. Can there be a time delay before they are credited to your site? '

A: Firstly, I think you may have the dampening link filter a bit puzzled. In line with the dampening link filter concept, your links are observed and identified by Google, you just do not have the full advantage from them until certain period of time has passed. The dampening link filter (if it exists) does not end links from appearing in Google's results when you look for them. Identify further on linklicious pro by browsing our influential URL. Also, don't worry too much about such things as the dampening link filter. In the first place, it is definately not established / acknowledged fact. The best way to search for links is to search for only the URL 'www.bethaladventure.co.uk', then on the page that displays next, select 'Find web-pages that contain the definition of 'www.bethaladventure.co.uk' .' Whenever you do it this way, you'll see all of the pages that contain your URL. Typically, the URL will be a dynamic link (or at least it should be, and you should ask them to make it so). Q: Yet another question is about found pages (using site:www.betheladventure.co.uk). I realize this is a record of pages which were changed. I'd 3-2, it went down to 28 and it is down to 26 now today. Do they just keep the pages for a month or is there more towards the pages than I realized?

A: The number of indexed pages is merely the number of pages in your website that Google 'knows about.' Theoretically, the only time age a page is necessary is when the page is also young*, i.e. Google lions haven't visited it however, or Google has not updated its index. As to why the number of indexed pages is reducing, I imagine it is just a temporary transfer. The amount of leads to Google's searches differs pretty much constantly.

*Actually, technically speaking, it has been suggested that Google isn't capable of indexing all 11.5 million pages currently believed to be on the web (and the 10 million more that are added each day), and that as it indexes new pages, old pages are sent out of the list. (This is an extremely rough description of the theory - if it is happening at all, it is likely to be far more difficult than this.) If this is happening, it may explain why the number of indexed pages is reducing. While I think it is a long-shot, a good way to deal with it's to maintain high quality content, to keep generating backlinks, to keep raising it, and to generate a Google sitemap.
