jmfederwitzThe twitter chat that I lurked in was dealing with the question of "In what ways are students receiving messages that they are not as capable in mathematics as other students?" The two things that stood out to me were how teachers sent messages and how fellow students sent messages. But the main problem with getting messages from peers is that they were allowed to happen because of poor planning on the teacher's part. For example, one person talked about feeling like their work was not confidential enough because of the way the teacher handed work back, so other students were able to see and compare. It is also important that as teachers, we listen to our language and be careful what we say to students. Statements like, "It's okay, I was never good at math either" can be very discouraging for students to hear.

Adam SheleyBy far my new favorite tool for connecting and communicating with other educators around the world. Great for getting new ideas and expanding my PLN. Free to use and allows for tons of sharing with people I would never be able to interact with (or have time to interact with) face-to-face. I don't foresee using this in my classroom with students.
