citizenwald"This site gives history students and teachers the power of GIS to investigate critical moments in American history (for example, here's our Great Migration map). Each investigation provides an interactive GIS map for studying patterns in historical census data over a period of time, a collection of historical documents chosen to help put the data into historical context, and lesson plans created by teachers and university instructors. We hope that this site makes American history more accessible to history students of all ages. Please explore!

Using the Teacher Community: GIS webquest
GIsforhistory.org was an excellent resource I used in my class last week. I started them with the easiest webquest on US expansion. The students practiced with how to use GIS and then were able to go on their own. I used handouts 1-4. They could complete this on their own time at home if computers are still an issue as they handouts spell everything out.
They enjoyed it and many agreed that they know understood how GIS could work. If the immigration webquest is completed in the next month or so, I plan on assigning it during the Migration unit.-
