Julio ZunigaIf I become an educator one day, I know that one of the many challenges will be to help students be aware of cyber bullying. For that reason, I read and analyzed the types of cyber bullies in the world. They are divided in four categories; vengeful angel, power hungry, mean girls, and inadvertent bully. Overall we must understand that some bullies are bullies without noticing, but can still hurt people while others cyber bully in order to hurt and entertain others.

Home of "Don't Stand By, Stand Up," StopCyberbullying was the first cyberbullying prevention program in North America. Its specially-trained young volunteers design and deliver community programs to help their peers address cyberbullying. StopCyberbullying's founder, Parry Aftab, calls them her "cyberarmy" empowered to tackle this important issue. These teens and tweens staff their own text messaging support line for other young people, build apps to promote kindness, and provide student peer support in their schools.

Alma SanchezI took the test to see if i was a bully and my score was a 7. I never thought that maybe my actions or words might hurt someone. As my score states I haven't really done anything bad and if i have done it I have done it "playing around" with my friends. This really helped me reconsider the words I use and how i speak to my friends online regardless if I am joking or not.
Before reading about cyberbullying in this website, I did not know much about it. I had an idea but now i know a couple of facts and things to look out for to help vicitims and also to help bullies. What I did not know was that most bullying takes place with IM messeging. Also that is the most popular way to send viruses and trojans. This can be really helpful when becoming a teacher because now that schools are more and more technological, students have more access to computers and I as a future teacher, can be on the look out. I also learned that it is important to educate students regarding this issue and how to prevent it. I learned about the different actions they take to educate children and prevent cyberbullying such as the teenagels who help out with awareness and education.cyberbullying cybersafety bullying Ed422 safety internet safety

Marisol MartinezIn the cyber quiz i took i had 3 points, which made me into a "Cybersaint". I think the reason I scored so low was because growing up I never had an computer or internet access at home, my parents bought me a lap top when i was a junior in high school and they also had the "bully talk" with my brother and I at a young age. Something I learned was the different types of cyberbullies. The one that I found interesting was "the vengeful angel" because it is usually a friend of the victim trying to stand up to the bully or "defend" the victim to the bully.

Jessica BhattThe Learn More section and quiz gave insight to what a cyberbully really is. Common actions that people take online are catagorized as bullying, and many times people don't realize that they are partaking in such hurtful behavior. Though I scored well on the cyberbullying quiz, I was surprised to see that some seemingly harmless actions can actually be very damaging and are defined as bullying. As i dug deeper into the website, I learned that there are four types of cyberbullies: bullies that seek revenge, bullies that are mean girls, bullies that are aggressive/ rude, and bullies that seek power. In all cases, the things said online to/ about other people can be very impactful. Whatever the motive, it is never ok to bully another individual in person or online. it is important as teachers implementing technology into the classroom that we address these behaviors and set a common standard of respect.

Amanda BeversI scored a 5 and was in category cyber saint. Growing up I didn't have social sites like we have now but I did go on blogs, forums, chatrooms, and did IM messaging. My father is very tech savvy and he made sure I knew about internet safety and respectful use. He also had this nifty program that enabled him to see what I was doing on my computer anytime he wanted so that was a big factor in keeping me in line.
Under the educators section I read about how it is difficult for schools to take action against cyberbullying since it is considered an outside circumstance. They mentioned how some smart schools are having students and parents sign contracts about proper internet use and not to attack another student online. These signed contracts give teachers and administrators power to take action against this form of bullying. I hope the school I teach at will have such a practice if not hopefully I can get one implemented because I take all forms of bullying very seriously. -
Andrew SchepersI received a Zero on the Cyber bully test because I don't normally communicate online. I learned a lot about how predators use this technology and how to avoid dangerous situations. I also learned some tips on how to avoid becoming prey to a predator.

stephanie campbellAfter taking the quiz I found out that I was "Cyber Risky" with a score of 6. This means that I haven't really done enough to be called a cyber bully, but I should stop doing hurtful things because they could be hurting someone else. Although my actions were not malicious, they were forms of cyberbullying and should not be continues. After reading, "What Methods Work with Different Kinds of Cyberbullies" and "Offsite Internet Activities & Schools", I have learned about the many types of cyberbullies and how they can negatively effect the people around them. I learned that although many schools don't hold them self reliable or fight to stop it, I as a future teacher can work towards educating students about the consequences cyberbullying can have.

Claire FackelmanThis website as a whole is a great resource for teachers and students alike in this technological world. I think the quiz should be taken by every interest user. My results were cyber saint, I feel that this is because I don't use IM and those were the main questions. These questions are definitely geared towards students and what can only be described as the snooping significant other. In regards to the educator section that was incredibly useful in outlining steps that should be taken to prevent these online bulliers and the bullied stop. I read the instant messenger 101 article and found it fascinating at how awful people can be to each other online. I hope as an educator I have the opportunity to discuss these important matters with my students using these materials.

sean sullinsWhen I took the online quiz I was happy to discover I had absolutely no actions which constituted cyberbullying! However it seems like any of those things could easily be taken as "just for fun" by someone who may be less sensitive to the situation. When reading the articles I loved the group put together called Teenangels, and then Tweenangels, to help make the internet safer. It is a powerful thing to rely on the young and empower them to improve the world!

Jennifer MirandaTechnically I am a Cyber sinner. I scored 12, however most of it was going into my husband's e-mail account because he has certain addresses or mail that I do not have and need forwarding. The other part was putting family pictures on Facebook.
Virus programs can be sent through IM applications. -
acscheidlerIt was interesting to see what is considered cyberbullying and how often I see it happening at all ages. My score was a 3, which was low on the scale, however I was surprised that I got any points at all. I am very careful with what I do on the internet because I know how public it is, so you have to be even more cautious about what you do and say. It was very interesting to read some of the articles that they have for teachers. I didn't consider the difficulty in punishing students for what they do outside of school. It was interesting to read what needs to be done in order to go about handling cyberbullying situations. One thing that I found interesting what the idea of the Teenangels, who provide presentations to classes about safe and respectful internet use. I think this is a great thing to talk about early on with students so that they know what is and is not appropriate and the consequences they will face for engaging in inappropriate use of the Internet.

Noah BarringerI was able to achieve the score of Cyber Saint because I do not like to participate in the type of behavior that would be considered bullying. I am not a person that typically goes into social media websites or plays games online, so I have not really put myself into that type of situation. I am also a little older and feel that I am mature enough not to engage in such behavior. If social media was around when I was in high school I may have had a higher score.
One area that I thought was interesting was the four types of cyberbullies. I think it is important for teachers to have an idea of the different forms of bullying. The four types include: The Vengeful Angel, The Power-Hungry and Revenge of the Nerds, Mean Girls, and also The Inadvertent Cyberbully. The other area that I would use in my classroom to track cyberbullying is to download Spectorsoft. This software allows teachers to monitor and capture IMs for future reporting or prosecution. It should be every teacher's number one duty to protect all of their students and I think this software will help in doing so. -

Genevieve HouseAfter taking the "Are You a Cyberbully?" quiz, my score confirmed that I am a "Cyber Saint"! The article "The Internet Super Heroes' Philosophy" was one that truly appealed to me. The author stated the belief of there being a hero in all of our children as well, and this idea is one that I want to emphasize in my classroom. I want to teach my students to be the best moral selves that they can be. Another article titled "Offsite Internet activities and schools" is one that spoke to me as well. I liked the idea of bringing in a speaker to talk to my students about the value of internet safety. I would love to promote such important ideals such as these in my classroom.

raleighton26After taking the quiz, the resulting number landed me on the low end of the Cyber Risky category. I believe that this is accurate. While I don't intentionally attempt to hurt anyone with technology, there have been times when I have posted pictures of people or forwarded emails without their consent. This is what I find scary about social networks, such as Facebook. Although people are given options on their privacy, most people don't realize the pictures that they are tagged in and the population of people now able to view them.
I read an article on children's use of instant message applications. It is easy to see the obvious dangers of IM, such as bullying or predators, but the article presented another danger of spreading viruses. I felt that it presented a good point that IM should not be prohibited with children and that doing so would alienate them from social groups. It did also make a good connection of IM as being approached by someone when all alone, compared to the environment of a chat. -
MIchael IsenbergTook the cyber bully quiz and I am a cyber saint. A couple interesting articles: Parry Aftab's article about schools dealing with students posting negatively about teachers, students and administrators. It says that schools can get in trouble for going after kids about what they post, so discussing with the parents is usually the way to go. Another interesting article talked about a group called the teenangels, who teach teens how to use the internet responsibly.

Jose CanteraAfter taking the cyber bully exam, my results were at a 5 which make me a "Cyber Saint". I mostly got points for us of bad language and uploading pictures. After reading the article on school restrictions on the cyber world outside of school I was able to learn that it is a risky situation. While the student may be participating in a hate crime, there is also the possibility of the school violating the student's rights and privacy.

Richard HunspergerAfter scoring 8 points, I fall into the Cyber Risky category. This seems to be somewhat acceptable according to the website.
In the teacher section I chose to look at "Instant messaging 101." The article first explains what instant messaging is and how kids go about using it. Then the article explains the dangers associated with IM programs. The greatest dangers include cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and harassment. It is easy for people to harass others using IMs and in most cases the history of the harassment isn't saved and becomes lost. With email, a history of abuse or harassment can be tracked quite easily. With IMing, however, messages can appear and be closed and one can never track them. The solution lies in emerging software that can track and monitor IM software.ed422 education cyberbullying cybersafety bullying InternetSafety

alex nicholsonI was surprised to see that I didn't do as well on the quiz than I had expected. Some of the things I had done in the past as a kid, seemed harmless to me, but this showed that it was more than that. I guess I'm guilty of having been a mild cyber bully and I don't like that.
In the article I read, "Common sense to Cybersense" it discussed how our parents and grandparents can still get through to younger generations, even if they aren't so tech savvy, by verbally communicating with the younger generation a few key tips that will keep them safe from the scary unknowns of cyber space. Examples may be informing children about being cautious and "smart" with their computer use, instead of letting them roam free with such trusting mentalities. Also, the article says to let children know it is not okay to start fights over the internet, provoking someone is called "flaming" and it even violates the "terms of service". -
Charles MedvedI took the test and I tested very highly for being a cyberbully back when I was in high school. I was quite the rude cyberbully and harassed many people on AIM. I'm sure it was out of a very unhealthy psychological state then. I do think the list is pretty lenient on the qualifications for a cyberbully. I believe context is everything and although I was a cyberbully, I don't think I was that extreme of a cyberbully. These descriptions can help me in the classroom because it allows me to have a greater understanding of the different qualifications of how cyberbullying can occur.

Rachel RichardsI scored a "2" in the 7-14 age range (the age range I'm most likely to teach). I have used someone else's account to access Netflix without explicit permission (although I had used it before and let her know about my access later). I also have signed someone else up for a running race before on Active.com without their explicit permission (a 5k), although I knew they wanted to do it with me. Adults and children use the internet every day. With more information comes more responsibility on the part of parents, the community, and schools. Educators, parents, and students should be explicitly taught how to safely use the internet, what cyberbullying is, and steps to take if they think they or someone else is the victim of cyberbullying.

Nicole CesarTaking the quiz on the Cyber bullying site, found that I am a Cyber Saint! Yay! I loved that today we are training teenagers to help other peers deal and stray away from cyber bullying. In high school many students fall to pure pressure. When using this technique within the classroom, it will have a positive pure pressure effect

john aguilarThis website is dedicated to educating the public about cyber-bullying. I took the quiz to find out if I am a cyber bully and my score was 18. this is an indication that i need to change my behavior. my score is so high mostly because I play online games and the other players and I tend to talk a lot of trash and use expletives during the game.
I also learned that there are several different types of cyber bullies. Some of them are looking for power and authority, some are being "vengeful", basically protecting others who are being bullied offline. Still others are going online in groups and looking for an audience to react to their activities.
This information can help me in the classroom by educating the children and showing them what not to do in a shared forum that I might employ for schoolwork. -

Breelin ObmannWhen I took the "Are you a Cyberbully?" test I figured out that i am a Cyber Saint, according to the website. In other words, I don't make websites with hurtful information, I don't use peoples passwords, and I don't send hateful messages to others. These are just a few of the characteristics of a cyberbully, but for the most part I didn't fall under any of them. One important thing I learned from this website is that there are different types of cyber bullies and different methods for them. There is the Vengeful Angel who doesn't usually realize they are a bully, the power-hungry:revenge of the nerds, the "mean girls" and the inadvertent "because I can" bully. It is important to know that there are more than one type of cyber bully because then more efficient actions can be taken in order to stop cyber bullying.

robertmendiolaAm I a Cyber Bully? I received a score of four. I am guilty of a few bullying issues and can still change my habits on the internet.
Learned: In utilizing social media, discretion and respect is always encouraged. Do not post anything that you would not say to someone directly. Also do not post as others, this is a violation of privacy and not disclosing who you are can be deceitful. Making student aware of hurtful actions and how bullies may choose to attack will be definitely introduced or reiterated in my classroom. -
Stephanie LopezYay I'm a cyber saint and many times i know of people that are cyber bullies and they fell the needs to be rude on the web to get attention. this section shows that many times in school students are affected by cyber bullies and become depressed by the whole situation. At a young age many students learn how to use the web are are the ones teaching the adults. Interesting enough students will far enough to bulling students online. One way of getting students to stop doing this is by using take 5 in which help students get away from the cyber bullying and actually staying away from creating enemies and making others singled out.
