The concepts of absolute and relative positioning in CSS can be quite confusing and are often misunderstood. Absolute positioning puts CSS boxes (divs) at specific pixel locations in the browser window, just like pinning cards on a notice board. Usually, the absolute position is measured from the top left corner of the page but it doesn't have to be, as you will see. For relative positioning, the analogy I often use is that of polystyrene blocks in a swimming pool – they float until they are pushed downwards by another one from above. If you specify float: left or float: right, that makes them float horizontally instead of vertically
