Students are lead through step by step prompts to write their lab report
This free site is for the teacher and student who would rather not breed fruit flies in real life for genetic studies. Students can log in as guests or with a password so that results can be sent to their teachers. Site provides an easy to navigate experience through which the students "purchase" their flies, mate them, and look at traits. In addition, it also provides a notebook site that walks the students through the process of writing a lab report for the results received. I especially like the way the site gives the students a feel for the time involved with a changing calendar and developing flies.

Purchase your flies and mate them. Use the report function for help in writing the lab report.
This free site is designed for teachers. It combines video, flash animations, and complete lesson plans for all subjects. Within the web site you can create your own group and favorites. It is intended for teachers and there are versions for K-12 and college. I like the fact that it combines wonderful resources together for a particular subject.
Various K-12 subjects are covered. The lesson plans can be found by following the links and the videos/interactives for each site are posted on the right of the lesson.
The concept of DNA and how it translates to proteins is many times confusing for students. Teacher resources and lesson plans are available. In addition, the site provides great interactive lessons for each step along the way for DNA being eventually translated into genes. I find that the interactives help students comprend and address their misconceptions.
The colors are inviting on the page but not overwhelming. After students understand how a protein is made, there are resources such as on the left to see how they work.
This a terrific site for educators. I have been able to find all kinds of lesson plans, inquiry activites, etc. on this site. The students enjoy the mystery spot which requires them to use their knowledge to solve science related mysteries. The site is not as easy to navigate as the others that I have mentioned.
Be sure and look at the mystery spot for interesting investigations.
I love this site from the birth place of many incredible discoveries in DNA science! It is for students and teachers alike. It contains up to date resource and well done interactives.
Go to the interative web site and watch the cell signaling movie-amazing!! Students can now see with video imaging what their books may say in confusing terms and pictures. What a resource!
