Diese Art des Hostings kombiniert die technische Bandbreite und die Sicherheit der BladeCenter von IBM mit den dynamischen Tools zur Erstellung von Inhalten und der regen User Community von Second Life.
IBM plant intern ein Pilotprojekt, in dem Mitarbeiter von IBM das Mainland von Second Life erkunden und von dort nahtlos in die für IBM gebaute Welt hinter der Firewall wechseln können, ohne sich dabei aus- und wieder einloggen zu müssen.
Zudem soll der Einsatz des Second Life Grid hinter der Firewall von IBM eine Umgebung ermöglichen, in der neue Inhalte, Datensätze und interne Kommunikation wie Chat, IM und Voice gesichert geschaffen werden können, während gleichzeitig eine Verbindung zu der Vielfalt von Nutzer-generierten Inhalten auf dem Mainland von Second Life besteht.
