"We Believe in Two Big but simple ideas:
* Game-otivation: Making it fun for advocates to do their best work. We think that it should be just as engaging for advocates to help you build your business as it is for them to play their favorite game.
* Social Nurturing: Connecting customer advocates exactly to the best prospects and other advocacy opportunities for them, at all phases of the buying process."

Interesting twist - an extends what I was writing about 6-7 years ago on relationship intelligence. Addressing complex sales and evangelism is very interesting.

Webtechman (Daniel Hudson) does it again with a great summary of the current state of the Gamification Nation. Great overview of some of the best free resources available right now.

And to boot, I'm honored to have been included in his "Current Gamification Twitter Game Board" infographic.

Nice contrast in showing the classic "long tail" of solitary games (in this case, long tail = death spiral for the game being played) vs. the continuous spike of socially-enabled games.

Nice overview on UX Magazine - covering a wide sampling of gamification ideas and examples, and why it matters.

And believe you me... it does. Can you go overboard? Of course! That doesn't mean it's not worth examining - deeply - to see how you can engage your customers, users, employees, etc..

"Using Earn Mojo “as is” (without writing any code), you can set up your site/blog/podcast to reward people with points and badges for the following:

Visiting your site (or using your product) for the first time
Visiting a specific page on your site
Visiting any page on your site on a specific date
Visiting any page on your site on a specific day of the week
Visiting your site (or using the product) on consecutive days
Entering a secret code (can be used in a number of ways, e.g. for signing up for a newsletter, visiting a physical location, watching a video, picking up a business card, finding a sticker in a secret location, etc.
Referring people to your site/product
New: leveling up by earning a certain number of points
Following your Twitter account
Being followed by your Twitter account
Using a specific Twitter Hashtag
Being a member of a specific Twitter List
And coming soon, a whole slew of awards for Facebook. . . .

Using EarnMojo’s API, you can reward points for literally anything, but you’ll need to write some code to do so. Recently a company that does expense reporting software asked us how they could use our API. Here are some examples we thought up for them:

Filling out your expense report early or on time
Filling out N expense reports on time
Saving the company X dollars by staying on (or under) expense budgets
Our API docs are currently private (read: under development) but you can sign your site up right now for free at EarnMojo.com and then just contact me or Mike if you want to use the API and we’re happy to help you get started."

Interesting article - wasn't aware of the game created by the Guardian to analyze 170,000 pages of receipts from government officials by 20,000 gamers/players.

Who said imaging and crowdsourcing/gaming couldn't collide?

"Gamification may have been the buzzword of 2010, but its influence shows no sign of abating in 2011. It is a term derided by game designers, misunderstood by brands and unknown to consumers.

So as you set out to “gamify” your business, what are the cardinal rules of gamification?

1. You’re not making a game

Gamification is not the same as game-making.

Gamification is about using game-like mechanics to improve a business process, or customer experience, or profits.

Game-making is about fun and wonder and challenge and art. (The definition of what is a game is way beyond the scope of this post. Check out The Theory of Fun by Raph Koster or The Art of Game Design by Jesse Schell if you’re interested.)"
