Caring for the Forgotten: AidSpring’s Elderly Support
Program Reaches 8,000 Seniors Across the Region
TALLINN, ESTONIA — November 2025

The Silent Suffering of the Elderly
In the focus on children and families, the elderly are often overlooked in humanitarian responses. Yet older adults are among the most vulnerable in conflict and displacement situations. Many have lost their homes, their savings, and their support networks. Physical limitations make it difficult to access aid distributions, and chronic health conditions go untreated without access to regular medical care.
AidSpring Foundation’s Elderly Support Program provides comprehensive care to 8,000 seniors across the region, including regular food and hygiene deliveries, medical care, home visits, and social engagement activities designed to combat isolation and loneliness.

Home Delivery and Personal Care
Many elderly beneficiaries are unable to travel to distribution points due to mobility limitations or health conditions. AidSpring’s teams deliver food packages, medicines, and hygiene supplies directly to their homes on a monthly basis. Each home visit also serves as a welfare check, allowing staff to assess the individual’s health, living conditions, and emotional state.
For elderly individuals living alone—many of whom have been separated from their families by conflict—these visits are often the only regular human contact they receive. AidSpring volunteers are trained to provide not just material support but also companionship, conversation, and emotional encouragement.
Medical Support for Chronic Conditions
Chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and arthritis are common among elderly populations and require ongoing medical management. AidSpring ensures that enrolled seniors have access to regular medical consultations, essential medications, and specialist referrals when needed.
The foundation’s mobile medical clinics include geriatric care services, and partnerships with local pharmacies ensure that medications are available and affordable. For elderly individuals with vision or hearing impairments, AidSpring provides eyeglasses, hearing aids, and assistive devices.

“I am old and alone, but AidSpring’s volunteers make me feel like I have a family. They bring me food, medicine, and most importantly, they bring me hope.”
— Um Khalil, 73, Program Beneficiary, Iraq
Social Engagement and Dignity
Loneliness and social isolation are significant threats to elderly wellbeing. AidSpring organizes regular community gatherings, tea sessions, and cultural activities for elderly beneficiaries, providing opportunities for social interaction, recreation, and mutual support. These activities help combat depression, maintain cognitive function, and preserve a sense of dignity and purpose.
