cajon drum selection stores top drums online percussion box best instrument meinl set music hand choices brands

Basically, a cajon drum is a box-shaped musical instrument that produces sound when struck on one of it's sides. Thin sheets of wood are nailed to make it]s five sides while the sixth side, made of a thin sheet of plywood (which also acts as the striking surface) is nailed to complete the box. This percussion instrument which traces its origin from peru, can be struck with fingers, hands, sticks or even brushes. It was popular in the 18th century during the slave trade in coastal peru. Today, the cajon drum has become popular amongst musical brands as it has been integrated to accompany other instruments to produce some soothing jazz, rock, blues, funk and even pop genres replacing the popular drum kits.

To play a Cajon drum, the percussionist takes the drum and holds it between their knees. He/she then tilts it a desirable angle and starts to hit the side. More so one can play the drum using fingers and hands to produce an even sweeter bass line. Some more experienced players have attached a bass drum pedal to the drum enabling them to play it with just a single foot. With Cajon drums flooding musical instrument stores , it's almost impossible to choose from the very many options available. Before you buy this drum here are some of the questions you should consider asking yourself.

1. Whats your budget range?

It's worth noting that not all expensive cajons are of high quality neither are the least expensive types of less quality. One should pay attention to specific details of the drums such as wood quality, it's reinforcements and finishing. You will end up finding most of these low cost drums are of high quality as compared to the most expensive ones.

2. What purpose is it going to play?

For frequent gigs and perfomances, its advised to always aim for the highest quality drum your money can get as it may undergo vigorous wear and tear during the process of moving it from place to place. However, for home purposes any can go. But this shouldn't make you get a rugged low quality Canjon drum instead.

3. How do i protect it?

Most Cajon drums come with an outer casing upon purchase, in case you don't get one, its advisable that you purchase its own case so as to improve it's lifespan and prevent damages that may befall it.

That being said, the specific things to look for when choosing a Canjon drum are as thus:

i. Quality of the Drum.

A Cajon drum made from high density hardwoods produce the best sounds. The tapa should be high quality and firmly fitted to the sides so as to produce accurate sound notes and pitch when struck. Other models have multiple tapas, this is a plus should you want to get creative with your sounds at some point.

ii. Size and sound.

Just like human clothings, cajons require one to measure the size that best fits their body. This is vital as they are played while the percusssionist is sitted on them. It would be unfortunate If you choose a drum that doesn't fit you properly during perfomances.

The cajon drum size also affects the sound it emits. Smaller models tend to have their bass high pitched and produce relatively low sounds as compared to the larger cajons that produce high pitched bass sounds and are much louder.

iii. More features.

Most cajon drums have snares, this is relevant if the drums purpose is to replace your drum kit during music production. However, if its function is to substitute your hand-drum then snares are not required at all. Additionaly, some models have strings attached on their sides, this can be useful when it comes to blending that deep baseline with the tantalizing sounds of the plucked strings.

Alternatively, you can try different Cajon drums before purchasing the one that best communicates with you. The trick is to ignore the brand and choose the one that emmits the best sound. Regardless, playing a Cajon is a very enriching experience thus one should get that which will satisfy them even in days to come.
