A giant metal machine falls to Earth and frightens the residents of a small town in Maine in 1957, until it befriends a nine-year-old boy named Hogarth and ultimately finds its humanity by unselfishly saving people from their own fears and prejudices.
An enormous robot has come from deepest space, crash-landed on Earth, and followed eleven-year-old Hogarth Hughes home. Now, young Hogarth has one big friend and an even bigger problem: How do you keep a secret that's 50 feet tall? Especially when a paranoid government agent is on the "alien invader's" trail, bringing with him the full might of the U.S. military to destroy the giant.
This movie is more than a great animated film. It's a great film, period. I'd put it in my own personal top 10 of all time. I've seen it 6 or 7 times now, and it never ceases to be affecting and genuine. I agree with the reviewer who said that there's not a single wasted line or scene in the thing.
When the final frame rolls, I dare you to not be moved in some way, shape or form. It's just a beautiful, beautiful flick.

Deserving of the highest commendation! Everything that everyone else has said in praise of this movie is absolutely true! What a great piece of art this is! The only thing wrong with it is WB's criminal lack of attention in the marketing of this film. How long has it been since you've seen a movie where the characters are pure, good people (and robots)? Please, please go see it if you haven't yet. What a delight!!!

Yes, in a deleted story board scene hints that the Iron Giant isn't the only one of its kind. When the Giant starts to sleep, his "dream" is transmitted to Dean's TV which shows brief footage of other Iron Giants.
However in the "Signature Edition" released in 2015, it is implied that the Iron Giant is the last of his kind, his planet having been destroyed by the war for which he was presumably created. a5c7b9f00b
