When three rappers want to get even with a pimp, they accidentally unleash a leprechaun who goes on a killing rampage in the 'hood.
He's been in the country side, he's been downtown, he's been to Las Vegas, he's even been in space, now that evil Leprechaun is in DA HOOD! Three young rap artists are looking for a break. They need money to buy some music equipment so they can go to Las Vegas and enter a contest. They meet up with a local pimp named Mack Daddy who agrees to "hook them up", but later declines. The rappers want to get even with him so one night they break into Mack's place and steal a lot of his jewelry, gold, and even the medallion from an ugly looking statue. Shouldn't have done that! Because without the medallion, the statue transforms into the Leprechaun, who goes on a killing spree looking for his missing gold, once again! And the song says it all, "there's nothing' scarier than a Lep' in the hood!"
In all fairness, I would say "Lep 5" is on the same level as the "Blair Witch Project". Both are paradigms of the next-generation of independent filmmaking.
Young filmmakers will doubtless be inspired by this low-budget classic- if not by the film itself, then by the idea that they can undoubtedly create something better. My biggest gripe- I would have at least wanted to see the evil Leprechaun get his just desserts in some way. The (cringe) "filmmakers" forgot the classic rule of horror flicks- 90% of the fun comes from the villain's demise. But I accept it as the price one must pay for innovative, iconoclastic filmmaking.
A comedy that tries ever so hard to be funny but which fails at every step, LEPRECHAUN IN THE HOOD turns out to be way worse than the original, Jennifer Aniston-starring movie (I haven't as yet watched any of the movies in between, but on the strength of this I doubt I'll bother). It's a micro-budgeted attempt at crossing a traditional comedy horror with a blaxploitation movie, and it really is that bad.
Warwick Davis (who REALLY must have needed the money) returns to the fold as the Irish menace who sets his sight on some black rappers and gangsters. Ice-T is the only recognisable actor in the cast, and you wonder what bills HE needed to pay to be reduced to appearing in this. Everything about the film is horrible: the jokes fall flat, the performances are terrible, and by this stage there's no horror left in the premise. Just dodgy effects and dumb jokes, repeated for an hour and a half. Avoid it like the plague.
