Oliver Queen was stranded on an island for five years where he went through experiences that changed and somewhat battle hardened him. Eventually, he makes it back home with a list of names of people who are corrupting his city given to him by his father, who "isn't who he thought he was". Eventually, others join his crusade, which soon goes beyond the list of names, and that's when things get complicated.
Spoiled billionaire playboy Oliver Queen is missing and presumed dead when his yacht is lost at sea. He returns five years later a changed man, determined to clean up the city as a hooded vigilante armed with a bow.
this show literally is the reason i got my abs toned muscles of Stephen Amell with his superb acting skills and gr8t fighting sequences. superb story with regular surprises and thrilling! nothing more needed on a TV show. just the BeSt on Indian television at least !!! show has very engaging characters. past storyline sequences are quiet dark and some may even find it disturbing but it is worth it, even i would add that i enjoy it. Amell has worked very hard for his character and that reflects in the fighting scenes, he took special combat training for ARROW. finally, this show is the best show ever to be telecasted on Indian Television. thanks to star world!
Arrow is successfully disappointing in every aspect that I could think of: (big spoiler alert!!! )
1.Directing- The scenes are poorly directed. Lets start from the poor performance of the characters which I believe could have done better with another director. For example Oliver (the Arrow) is believed to be dead for 5 years, when he comes back home from the dead he get a soft hug from his sister (Really??? a hug ??? you could think he went on a bushiness trip and came back), don't get me wrong I'm not looking for much emotions in this series but this is a poor understanding of the situation. Other then the performance the scenes are just not professionally filmed! another strong example is at one of the scenes Oliver is talking with his mother not arguing of fighting but using cold sentences to each other) and all of a sudden his sister ,which observed them from far distance, claim that they had a fight (OK maybe she can read their lips). there are so many scenes that I can give you but you got the point and I should continue to the next thing. Second thing which keeps going all the time is that the Arrow is using arrows and his enemies using guns,automatic weapons and they keep missing the target.As far as I can tell the arrow doesn't have a super dodge ability, and it seemed too lame that police officers, S.W.A.T teams and special forces soldier all miss the Arrow and even the camera angle doesn't let you thing that there is a far distance between them (oh God this is insulting). Third thing is that many time the Arrow is hunting some evil guy and they seem to miraculously disappear right in front of him!! (OK maybe he is not that a sharp hero).
2.Plot development- OK this even worse the the poor directing. for a whole season Oliver is murdering people who allegedly corrupted the city.He is the judge and the executioner (Ok this will change as the series goes). but what really bothers me is that most of the characters around the Arrow doesn't seem to worry about the killing spree .Only 2 characters does, and only at a very late part of the series. Another thing is that there are 3-4 enemies that keep come back at the first and second season. I love when a character is suddenly comes back to the series but this is happening too many time!! with the same characters !! come on the DC universe has plenty of villains, use them! Another is that the Arrow identity isn't kept as secret as you expect, at some point everyone knows who is the Arrow except new villains. One last thing that shows again how the plot is poorly developed is that the characters had done some terrible things one to another (cheating, lying, kidnapping,drugging, murdering ) but they somehow in an unreasonable way forgive each other or even worse - help each other (!?!?).
I could keep on criticizing this series and keep on with the spoilers (the big one is at middle of season 3 which I decided not to mention here) but if you read this far you probably make up your mind already so Ill save you from more spoilers/criticizing .
2 good things I have to say about the Arrow (the reason why I rate it 3/10 and not 1/10) 1.The connection to the DC comic world by joining interesting character to the series (especially joining forces with another TV series. A step I think had never been seen before on the screen). but this happened too late I suppose to save this poor series. you probably ask yourself why I keep watching this series, only to understand another good, amazing, thrilling and Flashing series. 2. Villains that are though enough to beat down the arrow - this is comes only at the middle of season 2 and season 3 but it surely add a lot to the emptiness of this series . and of course the Arrow ridiculously defeat them somehow thanks to the director.
In a sentence - this series could have been much greater, but it managed to be a disaster (i.e the Arrow character at Smallville was way much better). this is a real insult to your intelligence. think twice before staring to watch this big disappointment.
The Arrow is based on the DC Comics character, The Green Arrow, created by Morton Weisinger and designed by George Papp, which first appeared in More Fun Comics #73 in November 1941.
The character was originally a backup strip in the comics who is a millionaire playboy with a sidekick called Speedy and distinctive equipment such as gadget arrows, an Arrowcar and an Arrowplane. As such, the character had a long and largely undistinguished publishing history except for his inclusion into the Justice League series and a short run of stories by the important comics artist, Jack Kirby, years before his most famous work at Marvel Comics.
That changed when the innovative comics artist, Neal Adams, completely redesigned the look of the character in 1969, most notably by giving him a distinctive Van Dyke beard. This change inspired his frequent collaborator, writer Dennis O'Neil, to change the premise of the character by having him lose his fortune and becoming an ardent leftist political activist devoted to helping the underprivileged as a combination of Robin Hood and the Yippie political activist, Abbie Hoffman. This character became much more popular as a result such as giving him a famous series of socially conscious stories in the early 1970s with Green Lantern and later his own various solo comic book series.
This character has appeared in animation before this TV series version appeared on Smallville, such as the first incarnation of SuperFriends, Justice League Unlimited and a DC Comics Showcase short. As with most media, it is led by(Matt Nable). During the first season, it is primarily represented by(John Barrowman), who has his own dual identity as the Dark Archer (Green Arrow's arch nemesis from the comics). Oliver's mother, Moira (Susanna Thompson), was blackmailed into working with Malcolm.(Jeffrey C. Robinson and Manu Bennett), Eddie Fyers (a supporting character from the Green Arrow comic, played by Sebastian Dunn), and(Dylan Neal) are involved in Oliver's training, with an implied link to a greater conspiracy. The second season introduces(Kevin Alejandro),(Michael Jai White), KGBeast (David Nykl),(Graham Shiels), and Task Force X, with the latter revealed to have hired Fyers. Other prominent villains are(Seth Gabel), who has been reimagined to be the series equivalent to the Joker or , Asian crime boss(Kelly Hu), the assassin Deadshot (Michael Rowe), and HIVE leader Damian Darkh. John Diggle was the first person back in the main city to find out Oliver's secret. It was at the end of the third episode in Season 1. Yes. In the DC comics continuity, he is a member of the Great Ten, a Chinese superhero team similar to the Justice League (2001). Codenamed Da Yi Zhe Wan (Accomplished Perfect Physician), he is the team's healer and diplomat. He was not involved in Green Arrow's training, and many of his abilities were magical in nature.
In the TV series continuity, Yao does not have any magical or metahuman powers, but is instead a master martial artist, having more in common with another Great Ten member, the Celestial Archer. However, he does retain the military and medical background of his comics counterpart. Kyudo (Japanese for "Way of the bow"), a mixture of archery and martial arts popularized by the samurai of feudal Japan (though it may have actually been Chinese in origin). During his sparring sessions with Slade and Diggle, and when he trains in his dojo in the Arrowcave, he uses Eskrima, a Filipino martial art that usually involves improvised melee weapons.
