Vanessa Helsing, distant relative of famous vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing, is resurrected only to find that vampires have taken over the world. The trick to watching certain genres in film is not to expect too much. You watch Van Damm or Schwarzenegger, you don't expect much. The Mechanic was entertaining, but it wasn't George III, right? It isn't reasonable to expect a TV show to be more than what it is. That's the case with Van Helsing. It is what it is: a SYFY channel original program with probably not the biggest budget in the world. Almost every TV show is rocky in the first season. It takes awhile for everything to shake down. Van Helsing is shaking okay. I watch it weekly, love the characters, and it's always a treat watching Christopher Heyerdahl. So hang in, be patient, give the show a chance. I think Season 2 will be much better. And besides, I'm interested to see the evolution of everything in this particular post-apocalyptic world, including when and how Vanessa becomes aware of who - and what - she is. Alight, I watched this show till the end, but all I can say is I wish I had not. This show tried to copy the walking dead's "no one is safe" aspect and at first I liked it, but then they just started killing characters for NO reason what so ever. It started off so strong, a great team chemistry interesting characters, then they got lazy, oh the ass hole who no one like is a wanna be rapist, the doctor is actually a coward and left their best shot to live alone to die, the special blooded girl is also a utter bad ass for no reason, the deaf guy really is a weirdo killer, and the blond who was a bad ass at the start goes out like a punk for again no reason. If they had just stayed with the group and developed the characters some more, like they were doing, the show would have gotten a 10/10 from me. Flesh was a great story arc, the grieving ex vampire who is more human than anyone in the group, has his entire story and character abandoned. Axle, a powerful marine who know how to survive in this hellish world, is killed off because a door shuts because a character was uncharacteristically craven. Sam, the nicest guy who was second only to flesh in his humanity, turns out to be the internal killer? seriously so freaking dumb, they had such a interesting dynamic going and half way threw the season they threw it in the freaking trash.
