A lone man, recently released from prison, seeks out the people from his past who he believes betrayed him. While he forces each to atone for their sins, he must also face what meting out vengeance will do to his immortal soul. Meanwhile, he's not the only one looking to settle old scores. Hired by the man responsible for the events which lead him to prison, an eccentric contract killer follows his every move. Scenes of them crossing paths, sometimes violently, are interspersed with the assassin's self-realizations of how to deal with struggles within his own life. As if old enemies & hired guns aren't enough, a young female detective begrudgingly works alongside a veteran investigator looking to simply survive his last two weeks on the force before retirement, as they seek out the brazen ex-con who has been blazing a path of gasoline-powered destruction in his vintage Chevelle.
An ex-con gets on a series of apparently unrelated killings. He gets tracked by a veteran cop with secrets of his own and an egocentric hit man.
I highly enjoyed this film! It was nonstop action, and the main character was a rather interesting fellow! It was a nice change of pace from some of the other holiday films that are out there now. It definitely has the potential to be expanded into at least a sequel. I hope Faster is turned into a trilogy so The Rock's character will be further developed as I cannot wait to see, hopefully, what happens next in his story arc. It would also be interesting to see him matched up against the millionaire again or even working with him. If there is a sequel, I hope Samuel L. Jackson will be in it. It's worth at least a watch, no doubt.
Now lets be honest, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson probably isn't what comes to mind when you think of a great actor, but this movie is easily one of his best. He fits the role freakishly well. The cold hearted, unforgiving bad *** that's out for revenge. He pulls it off perfectly. What makes him so successful in this role is all in his face. He hardly talks at all through out the film, but you can tell how pis*ed off he is just through his calm facial expressions.
Billy Bob, as usual, plays the perfect strung out, half conscious low life cop that has one last case to solve before retirement. Oliver Jackson-Cohen was alright, I suppose, as the opposing hit-man.
It seems to be underrated on IMDb. This movie kept me on the edge of my seat, cheering for "The Rock" to deal out justice with his trusty revolver. A must see for any action movie lover.
This is meat-and-potatoes (and bullets) action filmmaking, although, really, that title's got to go.
