Vampires and ghouls stalk modern-day England, hunting the oblivious populace. Only the Hellsing foundation stands between the evil undead and the innocent humans who would be their prey. But there's something new out there - chips that give humans vampiric ability and bloodlust are being sold as the latest designer drug. With a new wave of evil creatures rising, Hellsing must rely on its two most unlikely recruits - ancient master vampire Alucard and the newly turned Seras Victoria - but can even they stand in the face of such overwhelming odds?
A British taskforce, lead by the daughter of the vampire hunter Prof. Van Helsing, battles the supernatural with the aid of two vampires.
I have a few things to say.. First, it was certainly not the best anime or something. But judging from what I've seen, this comes close to be a top anime.. But if you're for example only going to watch only one anime, I would tell you could to better watch Full Metal Alchemist or One Piece. Because they are less exaggerated and dark, and they are a bit more entertaining.. But if you already have watched FMA or One Piece, certainly do watch this, cause this one is very different from those 2 series and this one is also very enjoyable. This is a special/unique anime and I like special movies/animes/songs etc. It has 13 episodes, which is really short for an anime, plus the sphere (dark,cool, mysterious), content (not for children but very interesting) and everything is just very different from like, Naruto/DBZ/FMA/One Piece/Bleach. Apart from being special, it's also fun to watch. Sometimes the dialogs are a bit long, but it's funny how they try to be realistic about politics and stuff, so it's not bad. The most nice thing about the anime is the coolness of it. Alucard and that bad priest with the knifes are the most coolest characters I've seen in an anime I think =P And from the hole series, I definitely liked episode 10 the most: 'Master of Master'. B) Again a good example of the 'cool feeling'. It's about how Alucard, a very mysterious and proud vampire, got to know the head of the Hellsing organization, when she was still very young. How Alucard sees that how she has some pit and how he accepts that that kid is going to become his new master. And there is enough action in it, so don't worry about that. ;) I really liked the opening song! Very cool and ..catchy, it contributes pretty much to the enjoying of the series. Also, I actually never made a link of Alucard and Dracula until I came to this 'forum'xD So thanks a lot! :p It makes me understand the series more and now I find it cooler because of the idea that Alucard is actually the famous Dracula who was captured by the Hellsing family.. I also understand the scene now where that demon on the end asks: 'who are you?', then you see Alucard with half of his face looking like Dracula.. I would also want to say that the plot and ending were a little disappointing, which didn't ruin the anime that much though.
I recommend people to check this, it is special, it is compact and I think certainly entertaining because of the coolness and 'adult stuff' (blood, heads being cut off 'n stuff) and it's sort of a classic, many anime watchers know this anime, and if they don't, most will like it when they see this one I think. =)
The Hellsing anime was my first introduction to a genre which I had had little interest in previously, and, although this initially gave me little with which to compare 'Hellsing' I was still impressed. 'Hellsing' has much to interest the casual viewer, or the specific fan of the vampire 'genre', with an interesting twist on the legend of Dracula and several compelling characters it is certainly worth at least a single viewing.
The animation, whilst not as good as 'Blood: The Last vampire' or 'Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust', is reasonable and reinforces the grim atmosphere of the series, although in places it could have been improved.
But, 'Hellsing' certainly has many faults, which at times detract from the overall quality of the series. Chief amongst these would be the abysmal final antagonist 'Incognito', who can only be described as a mess of various concepts mashed together to create...'something'. In addition, the plot often proved garbled in the last two volumes (why and how did Alucards HAIR melt a silver cross?), and the 'traitor in the round table' story proved both pointless and hastily ended.
The (in my opinion) clear gap in quality between the first two volumes and the last two (not to say the last two volumes are especially poor, just that they do not rival the standard set in the first two), can only be attributed to the fact that the animes source material, the 'Hellsing' manga, had only reached volume 2 (it now having reached volume 9, and with a prequel to boot). The first two manga volumes formed the basis for the first two anime volumes, whilst volumes three and four were created almost entirely from scratch with almost no bearing on the initial story.
I would urge anyone who enjoyed 'Hellsing' (or anyone who did not, for that matter, and is a Manga fan) to find copies of Kohta Hirano's 'Hellsing' as it is certainly superior. Just don't expect anything at all similar to the anime.
In addition, I would like to point out that, contrary to what at least one other review states, Alucard was NOT inspired by Dante from the Devil May Cry series, as 'Hellsing', and Alucard were created BEFORE DMC1 was released.
