Having returned from the north after finding nothing, Wolverine/Logan watches over the school students for a night as Charles Xavier visits Magneto in his plastic confinement prison and Storm and Jean Grey search for a teleporter mutant known as Nightcrawler who attempted to assassinate the president. Things become deadly as William Stryker, a scientist who has experimented on mutants, leads a siege on Xavier's mansion- few mutants escape. With the school no longer safe, Magneto out of prison and forming a temporary alliance with the X-Men, and Professor Xavier in the hands of Stryker; the mutants team up to stop Stryker's plans to wipe the mutants off the face of the Earth.
The X-Men band together to find a mutant assassin who has made an attempt on the President's life, while the Mutant Academy is attacked by military forces.
I very much enjoyed X2. I have been a fan of the comic for years and I appreciate the job Singer did. While I wish more characters had been introduced I love what they did with the existing characters. The development of Wolverine was great (Plus Logan finnaly got the go berserk on the enemy). I also love what they did with Gene. Her transition to Phoenix is very creative (Hope I haven't ruined anything for non-comic readers). I can't wait to see the third movie. I truly hope Gambit is in it.
X2 is Part 4 of the trilogy, and being the middle section it is often the best. After Mr Magoonta was killed and captured in the first film he has been incarcerated into the superb American Prison System (he is locked in a cardboard box guarded by a dwarf wielding a bag of nutmeg). This means that all is well is the world of the X-Men (Xearth) and they are happy to pursue their other interests- Wolveryan paints, Rogue strips (clothes, not paint), Bumbit embezzles unfortunate street urchins with 3 card plop, Baldy fashions wigs from his oxter hair, Gargantuthon helps to build homes for the homeless in Romania, Goldberg tars the driveways of the rich and/or famous, Storm writes articles on good home living in small town newspapers, Magneter sits in boxes watched by dwarfs, and last but not least Terry babysits, whilst Chickpea organises seminars on maximizing the business potential of your software solutions. After a while they get bored and decide to form a league of superheroes for football (for you Americans, that's real football, not the embarrassment you play). The goodies become X-United and recruit such famous players as Donald Goalposts, Peely, Madonna, Robertini Bagginio, Boris Beckham, Stevie G, Figaro, and Zninadiniadine Zidanisizidane. The baddies are based in Manchester and are known as The Scum. When this first came out I enjoyed collecting all the various and varied various acting figures to play with. I would bring my tea-lights into my roof-space and have my own X-Men wars. I had all the figurines including my favourite- Stalin. I got the X-Men edition of Subbuteo with astro turf and would play for minutes at a time in my fake candlelight, flicking my balls in the gloom with a tender smile etched across my face. You could even play as some of the new teams that were introduced in the second film- The Policemen with their law enforcing magic powers, the Fireman who held the innocuous power of putting our cleansing flames, and the Doctormen whose power was editing competition application forms so that only their friends were successful. Some guy punches a hole in the wall and Annie Packscwhinn bounces around lovelyly.
Best Scene: When Monstror has a free kick from 45 yards and sticks into the top corner like a bullet. It was so much like a bullet that it went through the net and took off the head of an innocent spectator in the front row of the crowd. It was OK though- it was an Everton fan.
As irresistible as movie-theater popcorn - a lavish, reasonably intelligent, well-acted sequel with kick-butt effects that outdoes its predecessor, 2000's "X-Men," in almost every department.
When a mutant named Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming) attempts to assassinate the President of the United States (Cotter Smith), the School for Gifted Youngsters is attacked by General William Stryker (Brian Cox), a scientist who is rumored to have experimented on mutants, possibly even Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), and Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) is kidnapped, the X-Men must band together with Magneto (Ian McKellen) and Mystique (Rebecca Romijn) to rescue Professor X, stop Stryker from wiping the mutants off the face of the Earth, and quell the new public outcry against the mutants. X2 (aka X2: X-Men United or internationally as X-Men 2) is the sequel to X-Men (2000) (2000), which was based on the Marvel comic book series X-Men, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1962. In particular, the film was based on the "God Loves, Man Kills" storyline, written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by Brent Anderson, published in 1982. The story and screenplay for X2 were written by David Hayter, Bryan Singer, Zak Penn, Michael Dougherty, and Dan Harris. It is followed by X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) (2006), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) (2009), X: First Class (2011) (2011), The Wolverine (2013) (2013), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) (2014), X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) (2016), and Logan (2017) (2017); with the Deadpool film series being loosely related. No, he did not. He used the perception of slowed time to reprimand his students. He shut down minds of everyone in that particular area, as the electronic devices, including the televisions, are still in working order; a technique he later used in the White House.She's Siryn (Shauna Kain), Banshee's daughter. The majority of people in the mansion shot with the tranquilizer darts were kids, so they're going to feel the effects of the sedatives used much more quickly and more profoundly than adults. In fact, Logan turns out to be the only adult shot by Stryker's men in the mansion, and his metabolism and resistance to injury are much different than that of an average human, much less a child. For a brief moment, Logan does shake his head a bit as if slightly dazed, but the tranquilizer has little effect on him otherwise. Cyclops (James Marsden) is also shot when Stryker captures Prof. Xavier at Magneto's cell. However, the darts might not have affected him because he was wearing his combat uniform, which may have reduced the velocity of the projectiles. In X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it is explained that, due to Logan's healing abilities, sedatives and other medications would not work for him (which is why he had to volunteer for the adamantium processing back then). Even though Stryker knew about this, he didn't expect to run into Wolverine in the mansion. He even says, "This is certainly the last place I would expect to find you." Ronny was scared and upset, when learning that his brother is a mutant and witnessing Bobby demonstrating his abilities as a mutant by freezing their mother's cup. So he decided to betray Bobby by calling the police and telling the police that mutants had taken him and his family captive and had wanted Bobby and his friends to leave. Magneto used his powers to shut down Cerebro first and then forced the door open. In X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Stryker works with both Logan and Victor Creed / Sabretooth, but in this film, when Stryker says, "I always thought you were one of a kind. I was wrong," he was referring to Yuriko Oyama / Lady Deathstrike (Kelly Hu). Adamantium being injected into her body in a mass amount, it is highly likely that this character is dead. However, Kelly Hu signed on to X-Men 3 when Bryan Singer was attached to the project as writer and director. As soon as Fox Studios replaced Singer for Brett Ratner and Zak Penn, Hu was no longer signed on and hasn't appeared in any other X-Men sequel. He finds out only that his creator was William Stryker, who calls him "an experiment that failed" and "an animal with claws" but gives no details to what he means by that. As the dam finally bursts, Jean (Famke Janssen) creates a telekinetic wall to hold off the flood waters long enough to lift the X-Jet into the air, saving the children and the rest of the X-Men team. Speaking through Professor X, she bids them goodbye, then releases the water, which crashes around both her and Stryker, presumably killing them both. The scene then cuts to the White House where the President is about to broadcast a message to America to address the growing mutant threat. As he begins his speech, a storm suddenly brews up outside, everything and everyone stops, and the President finds himself facing the X-Men. Professor X gives him a report that was stolen from Stryker's files and offers him an opportunity to encourage mutants and humans alike to work together because, as Xavier puts it, "we're here to stay." After a few more flashes of thunder, the X-Men disappear, and the camera crew resumes where it left off. The President looks down at the report in front of him and then faces the camera. The scene cuts again to the School for Gifted Children, where Xavier is about to address the students in his class. Before he begins, he assures Wolverine and Cyclops that Jean made the choice to sacrifice herself. As Wolverine and Cyclops go out into the hall, Wolverine also mentions that Jean made another choice: she chose him (Cyclops), which seems to somewhat ease his pain.
