A teenage girl periodically travels back in time to feudal Japan to help a young half demon recover the shards of a jewel of great power.
Kagome Higurashi is a 15 year old schoolgirl who lives at a history-filled Japanese shrine. She is also the reincarnation of an ancient priestess named Kikyo, who guarded the sacred Shikon no Tama (Jewel of Four Souls), and who sealed away the half-demon Inuyasha who had tried to steal the jewel in order to become a full demon. Kikyo died of her wounds and had the jewel burned with her body. Kagome is one day pulled into the ancient well on her family's shrine and thrown into the past, 50 years after Kikyo's death. She befriends Kaede, the late Kikyo's sister, who realizes Kagome is Kikyo's reincarnation. They are attacked, and learn that Kagome has the Shikon no Tama, but it's actually inside her body! Kagome accidentally awakens the dog-demon Inuyasha, and frees him after the jewel has been ripped from her body. Now Inuyasha wants the jewel back, but Kagome can't let him have it. He is forced (by Kaede's magic) to wear a necklace that allows Kagome to control him with one word, "Sit!", which sends him face-first into the ground. Kagome accidentally shatters the jewel, and now she and Inuyasha have to work together to find all the pieces before they fall into the wrong hands. Only Kagome can "sense" where the shards are, and only Inuyasha is powerful enough to get them from the demons or people who have them. But can they stop fighting long enough to work together?
My friend introduced to me this anime about a year ago but I neglected it, now I feel like i have lost a year's time while not knowing this series.
lol, that maybe toward the extremes, but this is like the Lord of the Rings of the anime world. I would rated InuYasha as an equal to Saint Seiya for the depth, and Dragon Ball(the original and Z series) on the entertaining and funny side.
So the story starts with the female-protagonist Kagome Higurashi finding a worm-hole that links the present with feudal Japan from 500 years ago. There she meets and rescues the half human half demon boy named InuYasha.
With that and a few other details their advantures begin in recovering the Shikon Jewel which was shattered into many pieces. Together they meet many characters who either joins them on their quest or oppose them for personal reasons. As a side plot, the feelings each character have for one another grows and almost every one find their respective person of interest for support, comfort and affection.
Great story in any judgment, and excellent animation qualities, not to mention how extremely hilarious it is.
At least a 10 out of 10, highly recommended, especially if you are stuck at home during winter times, this show will cheer you up AND probably strengthen your understanding of relationships.
O ya, even tho this is an anime, the musics created for the TV series and the movies are simply breath-taking, one more reason to enjoy such a fine creation. Definitely a classic to be remembered.

I love this, even if it is dubbed. I can't help but notice that the voice actors of different producers stic together...sort of. Richard Cox, Moneca Stori, Kelly Sheridan etc.I like to follow the work of voice actors, and you all do such great jobs, the animation is great, meta story is great, I recommend this anime to my friends. My daughter likes Kilala and Sango the best. I simply like to follow the story, it's deep enough and silly enough to hold my attention. The Anime has spiked my interest in the Japanese culture and language, I do have difficulty with US history, but find Asian history more interesting for some reason, this show helps keep me wanting more. Keep it up guys!
