It started off with standalone episodes and was a pretty good police procedural. But after a few seasons it became a soap opera based around the characters' personal problems. By season 5 it's a complete soap opera, scenes rotating among various characters' ongoing dilemmas, soapy music... Too bad, because they used to have actual crimes being solved. I suspect the writers didn't like the show and decided to sabotage it slowly so as not to be noticed by clueless producers. Cleverly done! I really enjoy this show. It is very believable with great character portrayals. The character of Longmire is especially well done by Robert Taylor. He has a certain humility and understanding, that comes across on screen. As we near the end of Season 3, I am concerned about where a relationship with "Vic" might be going. Absolutely, no chemistry! Of course, I don't feel her character adds anything to the show. She lack any kind of personal warmth or class. Just crass! But I have watched from beginning and hope writers and Hunt Baldwin keep the substance and relevance in this series. I grew up in small southern town, and can relate to happenings, without a great deal of violence. The portrayal of the Indian culture is authentic with a good blend to modern day.
