Retells the story of the 10 year siege of Troy, which occurred in the 12 or 13th century BC.
Based loosely on Homers ancient Greek epic poem 'Iliad', Troy: Fall of a City tells the story of the 10 year siege of the ancient city of Troy by the Greeks, after Paris, the young prince of Troy falls in love with the wife of a Greek king and elopes with her.
I accept that this won't be a true account of the siege of Troy but even ignoring that I can't find anything to commend this series. It even fails as a cheap action piece.
The production value is incredibly amateur for what you would expect from either BBC or Netflix (partners on this series). The fighting is poorly done and it is glaringly obvious when sets and takes are re-used for other places, in some cases it looks like they just took various takes of the same stunts and used them in different places. I'm pretty sure I saw the same person get killed with an arrow 3 different times (all from slightly different angles) in the "climax".
The character motivations make no sense and the plot seems designed to string anything you might have heard in the Iliad together without any semblance of reason.
Watch the "Troy" with Brad Pitt or try watch "Rome". Even re-watch of either of those is better then wasting your time with this one.
As a person who likes to be entertained by movies and tv shows I couldn't care less if the story is accurate or the actors look like their counterparts. What I do care a lot is screenplay, dialogue, acting and sets, to name a few. And all of these are poor or just downright atrocious. In five minutes Paris goes from a poor shepard to a prince of Troy and then to representing Troy in an important trade event? Ridiculous. If you like GOT or Spartacus or Vikings avoid at all costs.
