After miraculously escaping the death defying Maze, Thomas and the fellow surviving gladers try and survive the scorch. A massive desert with a dark secret. The flare. The Flare is a disease that crazes the mind. WCKD try to hunt the gladers and use their blood to find a cure to this devastating illness.
After surviving the first Trial set by the creators: the Maze, Thomas, Newt, Minho and the other ravaged Gladers must survive in a decimated world overcome with the deadly disease known as the Flare. As Thomas and the gang try to complete the second Trial their adventure is filled with love, deceit, and death.
The story line is completely different. The books are able to play with your imagination and emotions. This film completely destroys the story you know and love. The first maze runner had some changes however it at least followed most of the story line. This is completely different with loads missing.
What happened to the epic journey across the scorch, the twist with aris and Theresa. No weird orange aliens at the end.
The action sequences are good and the cranks are perfectly taken on however the interaction with the characters is only to kill. The book made them interact more with the characters "Rose took my nose, I suppose".
The author of the books should be fuming with this adaptation.
After reading the book I decided to watch the film and I found it disappointing to say the least. In the film being in the scorch isn't even a trial. Also the ending is completely different with them going against the so called W.C.K.D (which is not the name in the book) whereas in the book they are voluntarily taken back to WICKED (the organization's proper name) before WICKED betrays them again, implementing phase 3 of the trials. Also in the book Teresa doesn't get her memory back in the Scorch Trials, she only even contemplates it in the beginning of the Death Cure. The Death Cure (2017) will be very different from the book due to the differences in the scorch trials book vs the film. The reason I didn't give this film a 1 is because I think it would be a good film for someone who hasn't read the book.
Scorch Trials ambitiously opens up its world with mixed results: gripping action, so-so script.
