Arthur Bishop, the master assassin who faked his death in hopes of putting that part of his ;life behind him, now lives a quiet life in Rio. But someone who knows who he is shows up and tells him, that if he wants to continue living this life, he will do three jobs for someone. Bishop tries to tell them he has the wrong man but they know who he is and if he won't do the job, they will take him but he gets away. He then goes to a resort in Thailand run by a friend, Mae, where he tries to find out who is looking for him. Later a woman named Gina shows up looking for medical assistance and Mae can't help but notice bruises all over her body. Mae deduces she's a battered woman and when Mae hears her being beaten, Mae asks Bishop to help her. He goes and kills the guy she's with. He kills the man and then sets fire to the boat he's on. But he sees that Gina has a photo of him. He deduces that they one who wants him, sent her. He confronts her and she admits that she works at a children's shelter in Cambodia and that someone told her if she didn't do what he said, the children would be endanger. While waiting for the man to come, they get close. And when the man's people comes, they grab them. Bishop is brought to the man who wants him to do the jobs and he tells Bishop that if he doesn't do it, Gina will be killed. So Bishop has no choice but to do it.
Bishop thought he had put his murderous past behind him, until his most formidable foe kidnaps the love of his life. Now he is forced to complete three impossible assassinations, and do what he does best: make them look like accidents.
I don't know what to say about Jason Stathom. He's still one of my favorite actors but some of the films he's been playing in really weren't my type of hype, this one especially. This sequel to the original film "Mechanic", which was actually pretty good, shouldn't have ever been a resurrection. Where should I start?! The story- line was too simple, the plot was too weak and there should have been more riveting action scenes to keep the viewer interested. If this film was written and directed by someone else with action movie expertise this probably would have been a more decent film. The acting alone was O.K. Like I said previously, Jason Stathom is one of my favorite actors but he could have done better than this and I'm surprised that Tommy Lee Jones would have even looked at this script! The type of actor Tommy Lee Jones is I wouldn't have imagined in a million years that he would star in something like this and as for Jessica Alba, I do enjoy seeing her in films but when the film is only worth watching just because Jessica Alba is in it I wouldn't recommend it except for that reason. If you're a Jason Stathom fan this particular Jason Stathom film will probably let you down like it did me.
Jason Statham doing what he does 'best', predictable punch-up, shoot-em-up movie.
Our hero is forced to perform three almost impossible assassinations and make them look like accidents, or the 'girl' gets it. Jessica Alba (the 'girl') is Statham's love interest, who he's just met, who we also learn later in the film runs a charity for children in Cambodia – honestly? Really? C'Mon!
The plot is very similar (almost identical) to the first film. He faked his death in the first film and again this time. Seems to be the popular reoccurring theme. He flits around the world Thailand, Brazil, Australia, Malaysia, and Bulgaria getting the 'jobs' done.
Invariably will most probably do all the same stuff again in the third installment ..... let's call it 'Mechanic Re-resurrection – Where's my car? Like the one in Transporter!'
Compared with the first film this isn't as good, just too similar but not done as well. If you're a Statham fan you will enjoy this film, otherwise I have watched and told you about it so you don't have to.
Mechanic: Resurrection plays in an uncommonly generic key, and the film only makes intermittent attempts to enliven the proceedings.
