Shao Khan, the Emperor of the Outworld, has illegally opened the portal between that realm and Earth. If it remains open, on the seventh day, all of mankind shall be destroyed. Now the Lightning God Rayden and four mortals - Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Princess Kitana and Jax, have 6 days to find a way to close this portal and save the Earth, battling the evil forces of the Outworld as they proceed.
Mortal Kombat is an ancient tournament where the Earth Realm warriors battle against the forces of Outworld. Liu Kang and a few chosen fighters fought and defeated the powerful sorcerer Shang Tsung, their victory would preserve the peace on Earth for one more generation. Taking place now where the first movie left off, the Earth realm warriors live a short period of peace when evil forces from another dimension come to invade and wreak havoc on Earth. They are guided by the forces of Outworld leader, Shao Kahn and his generals such as: Motaro, Rain, Ermac, Sheeva and Sindel. Now Liu Kang, Raiden, Jax, Sonya and Kitana must defeat Shao Kahn in six days before the Earth realm merges with the Outworld.
I have read some of the other comments on this film and i must say i am surprised.
I really enjoyed the first Mortal Kombat film and when i heard they were making the sequel i couldn't wait for it to come out and i wasn't disappointed by the movie.
I was hooked from the start from and on the edge of my seat. I remember at times says "Excellent" and "Finish him" and Flawless Victory." The action/fight sequences were very good if not Amazing at times.
I do admit that i was sad to see some cast changes in this film. But James did a good job as Rayden especially in the fight scenes. I don't think Chris Lambert had the martial art skills need and James had to pull Rayden off in this film.
Sandra Hess did a pretty good job as Sonya, but even i agree Brigdette was better in the role. In fact the only thing that disappointed me was the death of Johnny Cage at the start of film.
rumor has it that this character will be brought back to life in Mortal Kombat 3. If they every make it that is. What i really found to be amazing was the Animality sequences of the film. they were truly incredible.
unfortunately most people try and Judge this film against Mortal Komabat 1 and you just can't do that. An example of this is Grease and Grease 2. you can't judge these film together as they are both differn't and yet both very good films.
I never judge a sequel by it's predecessor, I judged this film as a stand alone film and it does stand alone very well. Just as Grease 2 stands alone.
10/10 for me. Andd i really do hope they make MK 3
I have mixed feelings about this movie. On the one hand, it has a lot of action and martial arts and special effects. That's a good thing. On the other hand, the story, the acting, and the special effects stink. That's bad. The choreography is nowhere near as decent as the first movie. I like it, because there's a lot of action, and the fight between Cyrax and Jax is pretty cool. Jax is the best part of this movie. Lynn Red Williams also happens to be the best actor in this movie. That is also not a good thing. Well, at least it's not as bad as Street Fighter. Man, talk about a crappy movie.
But the most stimulating, satisfying aspect of this action fantasy is the theme music.
Red Williams (Jax): Doubled by Tyrone Wiggins. In the British version four fighting sequences are slightly censored missing out breaking necks and other fight moves. While some didn't return due to scheduling conflicts with other projects, the only cast member to not return due to not liking the script was Linden Ashby (played Johnny Cage in the first film). A wise choice.
Bridgette Wilson (Sonya Blade) was scheduled to film "I Know What You Did Last Summer." Christopher Lambert (Rayden) ended up doing "Beowulf." Yes, except it completely alters the ending of the first film. But Shao Kahn forcing his way into Earth Realm is the same. The movie was released with the ending as we know it. Shao Kahn being defeated in battle by Liu Kang and Shinnok being imprisoned by the remaining Elder Gods. The original ending however had Quan Chi freeing and working together with Shinnok, which would lead us to MK3.
So, the released movie had no open ending, but the original plan was to release it with an open ending. a5c7b9f00b
