Two years after the events in "Final Fantasy VII", a disease called 'Seikon-Shoukougun', or 'Geostigma', is spreading through the planet. This disease is believed to have been caused by the body fighting off foreign material that invaded the body two years earlier, at the end of "Final Fantasy VII". Guilt-ridden and haunted by his past, ex-SOLDIER Cloud Strife has decided to live a secluded, solitary life away from his friends while maintaining "Strife's Delivery Service", whose headquarters is located in Tifa Lockheart's bar, the Seventh Heaven. Tifa's bar serves as an orphanage for children stricken with Geostigma. Here, Tifa keeps an eye on Barret's six-year-old daughter, Marlene, while Barret searches the planet for an alternative energy source to the Planet's energy, Mako. One day, Cloud receives a phone call from the former Shinra, Inc. president, Rufus, asking him for protection from a mysterious man named Kadaj. Kadaj, in the meantime, along with his brothers Loz and Yazoo, are searching for their "mother", and seem to believe that Cloud knows where to find her. Meanwhile, Vincent Valentine has been wandering the planet gathering information on Kadaj's scheme, and Cloud and his friends must come together again to fight these new enemies. An ex-mercenary is forced out of isolation when three mysterious men kidnap and brainwash the city's children afflicted with the Geostigma disease. One thing you cannot complain about in this movie is the CGI. The movie is CGI, and CGI is the movie. You can feel the pride of the developers as every hair moves in sync and shadows are cast perfectly. The character models are fantastic and certainly among the most life-like ever created. Only Gollum looks more realistic. Then again, it's very stylish. It is anime, even though the CGI makes it hard to see.

The pace is good, a good "beauty-action" ratio and a good progressing story. The storyline is quiet confusing, and it's a real mind-exercise trying to keep up with everything. It might be a vice to some. But every now and then, the long and astounding battle sequences take your mind of that and just blows you away.

You can tell it's a "made-for-fans" movie. One character has the old FF computer game tune on his cell phone(I think), and some characters pops up without the slightest introduction(since the fans already know them). Never the less, I found myself enjoying the movie very much, and I've never even played FF.

There are nitpicks about this movie, but it's by far the best in it's genre and so stylish it hurts. The hero's motorcycle, for example, is polished black like a cell phone and stores ten massive blades in hidden caches. Tell me that isn't cool. Well, i wait 8 years to see this movie, worth every second of it, but the movie was too short!, it's more like a teaser and i was really sad when the movie ends. when a movie is based on a book or a previous work of art, the directors and all the crew who participate in the making of the movie, specially the people who wrote the script, make the mistake of think all the people is aware of every aspect of the previous work, which is a terrible mistake. the movie is one of the best i've ever see, and any fan of ff should be more than grateful of it, all of the surprises in the movie, the music, every detail in it is so good you never want to end.

the negative aspect of the movie is the length, the way too short, as a fan since the game came out (8 years ago) i was expecting a long movie...this movie deserves to be a trilogy!!!

the movie centers on cloud and is fights, outside and inside himself, so the secondary characters of the fellowship were put aside and only get one or two scenes. Over 25 minutes of new plot scenes have been added the complete version as well as a lot of remastered scenes. Most of the new material are plot scenes and so far some new action scenes. It has something to do with a mistranslation in the game; Aerith is actually the correct translation of the name. I think it's because that a "th" in Japanese is similar to an "s" and the name in Japanese is "Earisu" so it's one of the few translation mistakes the English versions of the games have. She is called "Aerith" in all future Final Fantasy VII projects.

Also, Aerith was the original name because it is close to the word "earth."

If you watch the summary feature on the DVD with the subtitles, her name is given as "Aerith" also. Most of them are; Steve Burton and Christy Carlson Romano both play Cloud and Yuffie. Cid is not given a voice in KH1 but Chris Edgerley voices him in KH2. Also, Mandy Moore does not play Aerith in this, instead it's Mena Suvari who has the role in KH2. Lance Bass doesn't voice Sephiroth like he did in KH1, but rather it's George Newbern (a.k.a. Nooj in X-2), whom also voices him in KH2. Rachel Leigh Cook plays Tifa in this and KH2. No, despite rumours of this being the case. No, it is a sequel set two years after the game, except for the opening sequence with Red XIII which takes place 500 years after the gameShe is but mostly in dream sequences with Cloud but she is seen at the very end of the movie a5c7b9f00b
