Resident Evil 7: Biohazard[a] is a survival horror game developed and published by Capcom, released in January 2017 for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and in May 2018 for the Nintendo Switch (Japan). Following the more action-oriented Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6, Resident Evil 7 returns to the franchise's survival horror roots, emphasizing exploration. The player controls Ethan Winters as he searches for his wife in a derelict plantation occupied by the cannibal Baker family, solving puzzles and fighting enemies. It is the first main series game to use the first-person view.
An ordinary man must embark on a search to find his missing wife that leads him to an abandoned house where a mysterious family lives who harbor an evil secret within the house and themselves.
Resident evil 7 takes lots of queues from the previous games from the series, and combines them with newer horror games (Outlast) but feels like one of the most fresh games I have played in a while. The game is very densely packed with secrets to find. I found the game even more fun on my second and third playthrough. The multiple endings do feel lazy though, and they feel like a try to get people to play the game again. Combat is very fun, and the setting is creepy and the game is horrifying at times. I do recommend this game to anyone who likes horror game.
The way that the once BLESSEDLY enjoyable Resident Evil franchise has moved further and further away from even the remotest recognizable formula is sadly typical of franchises across numerous genres and media. Where once there was more plot and intelligence, and real aspects of survival horror that rewarded ones efforts, now everything has been relegated to first person perspectives or cheap found footage trash. This is too prevalent across games in general.
Since Resident Evil 4 the lines between the familiar themes and well known characters that a fan/player instinctively empathize with are gone. From all the experiences with those same elements of yore that are the cornerstones for a fan base, games that continue a franchise nowadays are bland iterations of what once was. RE 7 has virtually nothing to do with the actual continuity of the RE universe at face value, and even at a deeper level there's little recognizable or redeeming. Everything was too obvious, yet still explanations were spewed out as if people are just idiots that need a john madden play by play for what they see with their own eyes and hear with their own ears. A game that is of a franchise so well developed after many years should NOT do things as they have with RE 7. Yet the game followed the commonplace path of most media. =_=
Resident Evil 7 was likely put together in a hurry now that software companies have access to tools that can easily render environments and objects with far too much ease. The looks, feel and play styles are too cookie cutter for 2017. Specifically the whole redneck/hillbilly "oh what an eerie,dilapidated house in the southern sticks" motiff is so played out it just screams desperate lack of imagination. Thus this game is like a filler episode of a show that is simply not necessary for the franchise, and people will waste their hard earned dough on this and sequels to find out what happens next repeatedly in an ever expanding franchise that needs to be put down with a vengeance if its not going to be done correctly. (*coughs* Simpsons *coughs *)
As a long time horror fan from a small group of horror aficionados, Resident Evil 7 was lackluster and tired, inspiring little in the realm of horroe or survival, not rewarding to the players experience. It was like Texas Chainsaw Massacre + Slither were made cheaply by a film school student.
Even if I am of the same age group as many whom suffer from over nostalgic pinnings for things long past, I gotta stand up to the ever heaping loads of detritus that are overflowing in all sectors of our modern world. This game was nothing special. Ciao
