Two mismatched security guards are thrown together to bust a smuggling operation.
Earl and Hank have only one thing in common: they're both L.A.P.D. rejects. One just got kicked out, the other can't even get in. After confronting each other on opposite sides of the law during a traffic stop that escalates out of control, these two luckless individuals end up partnered as lowly security guards. Despite being damned to the lowest rung of the law enforcement ladder, Earl and Hank uncover a sophisticated smuggling operation led by Nash and his band of thugs. When Earl and Hank get their hands on some hot property, they go on the run from, first the bad guys, then the L.A.P.D.--led by Lt. Washington and Detective McDuff. What these two unlikely partners do to law enforcement is a crime, but they just might save the day. That is, if they don't kill each other first.
As a new fan of Martin Lawrence, I was looking forward to seeing this film. But I left feeling a bit deprived of a good experience. This is definitely not his best work. While I own the movie (video of the month club, you know), I would never have bought this one on purpose. It's a poor rendition of the Gene Wilder/Richard Pryor team and an even worse attempt to capture the charisma between Mel Gibson and Danny Glover.
I am simply stunned that they paid Martin Lawrence an astounding $20 M to do this film, considering the hollow script and plastic acting he put into this production.
I was; however, a bit surprised in the quality of performance delivered by Steve Zahn. I was never very impressed with anything he's done, and his work in this film was completely professional.
For the best of Martin's work, see "What's the Worst that Can Happen." Martin has a professional supporting cast which carries him throughout that movie, and enables him to deliver a near brilliant performance. As a stand-alone, or part of a simple duo, Lawrence really just does not have what it takes to make the cut.
This movie has a few funny moments, but that is about all I can give it.

i personally didn't find this movie particularly funny... really its just a horrible sequence of stereotypes about how the poor black man is always the victim and at the same time how playing the victim is racist in and of itself.
im not really sure what else to say about it... its a movie... it tries to be funny i guess... martin lawrence is sometimes funny, but in this movie i just found its constant crying about how black people are poorly treated and how white people are just evil slave masters constantly trying to get the black man down tiresome...
So if feeling sorry about your race and putting the blame on everyone else is your kind of humor im sure you would really like this movie... personally i just find it racist all around... and people should really stop trying to single themselves out for what color they are, if you really have a problem with racism maybe you should take a good long look at yourself in the mirror, things like this really only do more harm than good...
But hey thats just my 2 cents.... 2/10
