At a UNSC military training camp on Cirnicus-IV, Tom Laskey trains to fight Insurrectionist (terrorist rebels). But while training mankind is encountered by a religious alien military known as the Covenant, bent on fulfilling the ultimate destiny of the forerunners. It is up to Tom and his squad to escape the planet and live to fight another day.
In the future, a group of teenagers from prominent families are trained at the Corbulo Academy of Military Science forming the Hastati Squad to fight against the insurrectionists. Out of the blue, the planet is invaded by powerful aliens and only four cadets survive. When there is no hope for them, they are rescued by the strong Master Chief.
Granted, I have never played the "Halo" games, because those types of games never really appealed to me, but I was, of course, familiar with the universe. I mean, it is "Halo" after all, kind of hard to miss out entirely on that.
I had not heard anything about this 2012 movie prior to finding it on Netflix, I believe it was, and then sitting down to watch it. I must admit that I did have some expectations to the movie. It is "Halo" after all.
The movie started out alright, but very quickly lost its momentum and its appeal. And by the 25 minutes marker, I was ready to give up out of a sheer lack of interest. The movie had nothing to offer me, and I was more than bored with the storyline (or shall I say, lack thereof). But I decided to keep with it and give the movie a chance to win me over.
When I hit the 36 minute marker, I gave up. This movie was just pointless and offered nothing in terms of a proper storyline or appeal in any way to me. The characters were flat and irrelevant, and basically were generic and cliché all the way, and that made me have zero interest in the characters. And the storyline just was too shallow and progressed literally nowhere in the 36 minutes that I endured of this ordeal of a movie.
I was expecting quite a bit more than what was delivered on the screen, and I was sorely disappointed with what I suffered through in the 36 minutes that I endured. I have absolutely no intention of ever returning to watch the rest of the movie, because there was nothing for me to enjoy here.
OK I'm going to make this really short, the series was not bad in fact as far as SCFI TV Shows go it was ground breaking. Not since star trek the series has this much special effects actually worked in a show.
Production: the level of detailed they put into the outfits and props I can't vouch for but I can safely say the production value of this was awesome.
writing: was not that bad either it was not corny or cheesy and at no point did I cringe with discomfort over some obvious factoid that was being said.
Actors: Acting was not that bad, wasn't amazing but not that bad.
Conclusion: Common were talking about something that everyone said couldn't be done and MS with 363 did pretty well (and MS does not do to many things well anymore) in fact I watch this movie with my wife and she said that this is an amazing entry into the world of halo. All and all I hope there is a season two and I hope Netflix or Amazon helps sponsor it because this would make an amazing addition to either of their original series libraries Honestly I can't see it picking up traction on any broadcast or paid channel
The additional content is a rather long part about the new recruits enrolling at the Corbulo Academy of Military Science and an outtake reel at the end of the movie. Both additions can be seen as a bit slow and not adding much content. The short intros of the single webisodes (that were always teasing the game a bit) were cut together to an opening sequence that does not quite have the same effect and seems a bit strange.
If you have seen the webisodes, you can therefore miss out on the retail version. Everyone else cannot make any big mistakes as there is only one version available for purchase anyway. a5c7b9f00b
