As the new prodigy at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology, Hiro now faces daunting academic challenges and the social trials of being the little man on campus. Off campus, the stakes are raised for the high-tech heroes as they must protect their city from an array of scientifically enhanced villains.
One of the few animations I was hooked on almost immediately upon watching was Big Hero 6, but this serialized version is horrible. The drawing style is too simplistic, the animation is choppy like it was some flash game, some of the voice actors are different, but all of them sound weird when they speak... there is unfortunately nothing to like about this version of Big Hero 6, at best you can tolerate a couple things, so it's a complete disappointment.
You could argue that it looks like it does because of budget reasons, but more than 3 years passed since the movie and I don't think I need to go into great detail how much computer technology can progress in 3 years. Then there's Dreamworks Animation that creates very good serialized 3D animated cartoons (Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, Dragons: Riders of Berk / Defenders of Berk / Race to the Edge, etc.), so I don't understand why a megacorporation such as Disney can't do the same with a serialized sequel, so it appears more similar to its predecessor.
The series have likable characters, intelligent writing, humor and heart. What more could you want from a children's TV show (or any show for that matter)? I enjoyed the animation style too, because I really miss the traditional 2D animation. Don't get me wrong, I love 3D movies, with each new one in the cinema, the CGI gets more impressive and enjoyable and I would certainly miss them if they stop making them. It is just that traditional animation has its charm too and the number of 2D movies has gone significantly down in recent years. Anyway, in the case of Big Hero 6 nothing of the spirit of the original movie is lost in the transition to 2D TV show. And for those who are fond of cats, there are cute cats now and then in the background, the subtle (or less subtle) anti-cat attitude, other movies and shows love to indulge in, is completely absent from these series.
