Tough guy, tough cop Jack Cates turns to hustler/con-man Reggie Hammond once again this time to save his career when he is on the trail of a mysterious person named The Iceman, and when he is being convicted of manslaughter. Jack Cates once again enlists the aid of ex-con Reggie Hammond--this time, to take down The Iceman, a ruthless drug lord operating in the San Francisco bay area. To many people another 48 hours is a like a remake of the original. I can see why they would think so. many of the scenes are just like the ones in the first movie. However I believe it had a new plot being to catch a mysterious criminal known as the Iceman. I thought it had a great twist on who was the main bad guy after all. The end shootout was one of the best in the action movie history. There were also some good comedy scenes between Murphy and Nolte. Andrew Divoff does good as Ganz brother. Murphy's scene in the bar however is bad and does not even come close to the original. In my opinion this was a good action/comedy sequel to a classic original. Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy are reunited after 8 years, and their chemistry is still there, but the humor is nearly gone. This is a tough, violent, gritty and foul-mouthed action movie. The action scenes (with a noted emphasis on glass-breaking) are solid, and there are some first-class stunts. The story is routine, but it contains an element of whodunit (the identity of the mysterious Iceman) which I appreciated. It's pretty good at what it does - just expect the blood squibs to far outnumber the laughs. **1/2 out of 4. The story is mostly a rehash of the original "48 Hrs.," with the same hard-boiled mixture of violence and wisecracks.
