Young Catherine Langford embarks on an unexpected adventure to unlock the mystery of what lies beyond the Stargate in order to save the Earth from darkness.
As a huge fan of the Stargate franchise, I was expecting this with baited breath. Needless to say, my expectations were not fulfilled.
The 30-minute intro found me cringing more often than not, with very poorly timed delivery, bad to horrible acting and awful spinning transitions designed to give you vertigo.
The plot is very simple and straightforward, which isn't always a bad thing, but when the accompanying acting is as bad as we see here, it tends to detract from the experience, as I was desperately trying to find something worthwhile. The only well acted parts were, ironically, the villains'.
The CGI is quite good and, although I wish they'd kept it a bit closer to the original, that's just my impression as a fan - I'm sure newcomers to the series will have no problem with it.
Overall: a lackluster pilot to a long-awaited series that needs to either pick up quickly.
I'd list specific scenes and warn of spoilers, but if you watch the show, it takes care of spoiling everything Stargate all by itself. Absolutely zero redeeming qualities. I can't believe anyone connected to the originals in any way would be okay with this "series". The acting is well below sub par, the story has no respect or regard for the original series, the effects are probably done with a 1998 PC in someones garage, and the over all product is so disappointing that all the excitement I had for this series has turned to a realization that Stargate is now officially a thing of the past to me with no hope for anything in the future...
