In 2020, boxing is no longer participated by humans. Instead, robots will fight in the ring. A former boxer Charlie Kenton tries to find a good robot after he finds out his wife died and he had lost twice. When he decided to look for parts in the junkyard, his 11 year old son, Max Kenton finds a dumped robot Atom and says he could be a good candidate however Charlie did not agree with him. But Max decided that Atom could so he restored him and he had won many rounds to WRB (World Robot Boxing). And for the final proof that Atom is good, he had to fight the undefeatable WRB champion, Zeus.
In the near future, robot boxing is a top sport. A struggling promoter feels he's found a champion in a discarded robot.
As a child of the 80's AND a huge action movie lover, I got the best of both worlds while watching this movie. As I mentioned in the title of my review, Over The Top is the first movie I thought of as the credits rolled by. This movie was so much like my fav. Stallion movie from the 80's that I had to revisit the story line a few times to make sure they just did not substitute a "arm wrestling" with a "robot". In the end, it seems that since this movie is based on a short story that was written in the 60's, it could not just be a remake of the classic 80's movie so just MAYBE Over the Top used snippets of this short story to create the Stallon movie...who knows. All I DO know is that this movie has it all...action, drama, humor and sci-fi all wrapped up into a enjoyable movie that the whole family should enjoy. I did not want to look away..the action followed well, the drama was not too intense and the story line was believable enough that Im starting to wondering WHEN exactly we will see ROBOT boxing in our future.. They often say inventions are based on movies and TV right? Well, when Robert boxing starts...i will be there for sure thanks to this movie! Loved it and its well worth the money you spend on it. Its a keeper..kinda like an Ironman or a Spiderman movie. Get this one! Cant wait to #2 comes out in 2014.
I actually believed, Hollywood stopped making such films at the time Walt Disney died. Non animated Disney Movies where in a class of its own, but this movie reaches beyond those borders of awfulness.
Who in their right mind can find a single positive thing to say about those 90 min plus something of clichés and stereotypes. I honestly believe the scriptwriter teamed up with the director and blackmailed a bunch of people into that. if anything else made this movie happen I really have to doubt reason and accountability of a lot of people including me, as I unfortunately managed to watch the first 30 min of that masterpiece. This isn't even good enough to watch it witch one eye half open, while lying in bed trying to cope with your hangover.
Are people getting dumber by the second, or is there another reason why Hollywood manages to put out one decent movie every two years. I honestly don't get it, but somehow feel insulted. How is a rating of 7.4 possible, how is it possible that according to IMDb this movie made more than 200mil?
There are watchdogs who prevent people from watching explicit adult material or gore and violence - why isn't there anybody who serves the public by placing a stupidity or intellectually-insulting rating.
Real Steel is sci-fi without the science, and the fiction is strictly 20th century, straight out of Rocky knockoffs.
Farra tells Charlie and Max that she wants to buy Atom as a sparring bot for Zeus. However, given her reaction to Max refusing to sell Atom and her reaction to Atom winning the fight against Twin Cities, it seems that this is not her real intention but rather that she is trying to use her money to control the sport (as Max says when he calls her out after the Twin Cities fight). Farra likely saw Atom as a threat to Zeus, as he really had no fighting pattern (Zeus's main feature was to adapt to other bots' patterns) and as a sparring bot he was also able to take a lot of hits and last longer in a fight.
