Macgyver is an enigmatic loner who often finds himself working for an organization called the Phoenix Foundation, the government, or a friend in need. He encounters all types of dangers and escapes from them not with weapons, but with his ability to create gadgets out of everyday objects. His enemies range from militant drug lords and dictators to racist store owners. No matter what he's up against, Macgyver can always defeat his foes with his cunning and his skill.

Alot have been said on macGyver. Some say it's all bulls*** and that all those scientific tricks of his are impossible. But that was the whole theme of the show, unless I was the only one who noticed. Thats why he's MacGyver. Because he does those idiotic things and makes a bomb out of a chewing gum and some plastic. If you want logic go see Law and Order.(Great show by the way) MacGyver was that time of the day when you just let yourself be swept away by his great and unbelievable ideas. If some people don't buy it, then just put it in the Sci- Fi section and it will be more "Logical". TV is made for the daily escape into the impossible, and that's what macGyver was all about.
... for the first three seasons.
Season three was probably the show's high point, with the introduction of the short lived character Nikki Carpenter(Kind of an antithesis of MacGyver) and awesome episodes such as The Widowmaker and Hell Week.
Unfortunately, the show got too preachy and unwatchable after season 3-- as the show got too caught up with 'issues' and lost sight of the series' real draw-- the MacGyverisms.
Of course, in season seven, the producers promised to return MacGyver to its old form-- but that just resulted in such wonderful episodes as the incredibly lame two-parter "Good Knight MacGyver"(Mac gets conked on the head and imagines he's back in King Arthur's time) and the ludicrous final episode (When Mac meets up with his illegitimate child-- totally contradicting the choir boy image he had built up for the past seven years.)
If you have a chance, watch the first three seasons on WGN-- if they've already cycled past them, don't waste your time.
