When a man (Robbins) believes he has discovered that his wife is having an affair with his boss, it sets off a chain reaction of events. First he wanders into a ghetto where a robber (Lawrence) tries to take his money at gunpoint, but instead sets a wild ride from California to Arizona. The two eventually become reluctant friends. Discussing robbery techniques, they decide to get back at the boss by robbing an office safe containing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Life is further complicated by another pair of robbers who chase the first two for infringing on their territory. I didn't expect much of this, but after a slow 5 minutes Martin Lawerence came in and started it all off. Tim Robbins is not great at this type of comedy but he works well with Lawerence. It's very funny if you're in the mood - however if you don't like Lawerence's manic style of humour then there's not much else for you here. I was sceptical when I first heard about Steve Oedekerk's film Nothing To Lose. Having been tramatized by MARTIN on Fox's nigh lineup for so many years and A Thin Line Between Love and Hate began to stink up the box office, I just couldn't force myself to see more Martin Lawrence. Years later I saw the film at a friends house and I was amazed with the on camera chemistry that Robbins and Lawrence work with. I am a fairly big Tim Robbins fan, I think he made Arlington Road worth watching, but disliked Lawrence so much I could hardly finish the film. The comedic moments of the film where well executed and they left me laughing, not roling on the ground like most Oedkerk, but laughing none the less. There are a lot of serious issues that Oedkerk tried to tackle in the screenplay... the black and white play-off between Robbins and Lawrence makes the film worth watching.
