Rival nations are secretly developing weapons that could threaten the future of mankind. Deep in the jungle, an elite tactical soldier must combine stealth with survival to infiltrate the enemy and stop a weapon of mass destruction from triggering the largest full-scale war the world has ever seen. The game is set in a sweltering jungle where players must fight for survival by battling relentless natural elements, as well as an onslaught of ruthless enemy soldiers.
In 1963 Naked Snake, soon to be Big Boss and father a Solid Snake, infiltrates the Russian jungle to extract a Russian weapons specialist. The mission turns into a catastrophic failure when Snake's former mentor, The Boss, defects to Russia and sets a nuke. Now alone and defenseless Snake must stop The Boss and her squad of crack special ops from unleashing nuclear war!
Hideo Kojima never ceases to amaze me, besides the fact that Snake (A.K.A Big Boss) looks amazingly like Kurt Russell from "Escape From New York" in this game, the characters look and feel more realistic than anything ever attempted with video games. Since video games where invented they have been shrugged off by the other media's as inferior and childish, I have a feeling that that time is quickly coming to an end.
This game's story line had me more intrigued than I've been with any movie in a long time. The Music is spot on, the voice overs are flawless, the cinematics and action rival that of most modern films, and Yoji Shinkawa's art work is fresh and inventive. Kojima really has mastered the technique of "playing a movie" with this one.
The only real caution i can give is that the violence can get intense in area's, and the game play may be a little to in depth for newer gamers.
But if your ready to put some time and effort into it, this game is nothing short of the perfect experience.
This game is so big, there is so much to uncover, and 'play' with in the environments that I would say that it is almost infinitely playable.
The sniper battle segment of the game could be it's own game. The details of the muddy foot prints to track, and if your lucky enough to find that boss's pet bird and shoot it, well, the designers thought of everything! Or if you figure out how to get the alligator mask then use it on the enemy... just a lot of fun ideas that don't betray the mood of the game.
I love that you can skip any and every scene this time, you don't have to sit through the cut scenes if you don't care to. (MGS2 was not always like that) My only complaint is that when you call Para-medic or the Major you might have to call a couple of times to get them to talk about exactly what you want them to talk about. Aside from that, little 'annoyance' I have never played a better game, this is a master stroke that blurs the line between game and art.
