Brian O'Conner gets on the wrong side of the law when he is falsely associated with the murder of multiple police officers. He escapes to Brazil with Dom and Mia Toretto to pull of a ten million dollar heist and disappear. Their heist is made more challenging when a highly skilled and ruthless cop is sent to catch them.
Dominic Toretto and Brian O'Conner are still wanted men. They are now in Brzil along with Dom's sister, Mia. They were hired to do a job but it seems they were being used by someone and now that someone is after them. They decide to go after him so they bring in some of their friends to help them. And the same time, Luke Hobbs a government agent who specializes in tracking down fugitives arrives in Brazil and is determined to get them.

When street racing in Rio it's important to obey the custom of pimping your car out in a thong.
But since the street racers in this action movie are criminals, it's not surprising that they don't follow the rules.
After they free Dom (Vin Diesel) from custody, Mia (Jordana Brewster) and Brian (Paul Walker) flee to Rio, where they get involved in a car heist that finds a dead cop on their hands and a drug czars' data in their possession.
Privy to the location of the kingpin's cache, Dom and some acquaintances (Tyrese Gibson, Ludicrous) decide to appropriate it.
Meanwhile, US agent Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) is hot on their trail.
The fifth installment in the franchise, Fast Five is a refreshing departure, where street racing takes a backseat to crazy chases and a memorable performance from The Rock.
Incidentally, Rio's Christ the Redeemer statue makes an excellent flag girl. (Green Light)
Why does this even have to be a fast & furious sequel..
I thought the story of the fast and furious movies revolved around drags and races. This movie did have a drag with the cop cars which was unnecessary given their situation.
Does anyone remember how cool the cars & drags were back in the original. I remember each and every model of the cars used in the movie. Or how cool it was see them push the NOS button to go faster. Or how cool the entire soundtrack of the movie was. It's one of those movies that no matter how many times you saw you could never get bored of.
This movie just doesn't do that. Its one of those mindless action movies where you keep your brains in your car before you enter the theatre to preserve it in the same condition. Even though the action sequences in the movie are shown well, they are too far fetched and totally unrealistic.
I felt the damage done to the city at the end was far greater than the cash they steal, for which they need to take a sequel to hunt them down where ever in the world they might have escaped to, to pay for all the damage done.
But what i love is the moral of the story at the end. "If you have the money, always go in for a European sports car" :)
Absurdly long, absurdly over the top and absurdly absurd, Five Five - still manages to be more fun than any movie with its outrageous carbon footprint has any right to be.
