Tom Hardy is a fifth-generation cop. When his father dies during the chase of a serial killer, Hardy further complicates matters by implicating his partner and cousin Jimmy in a police brutality case. Two years after Jimmy is believed to have committed suicide, women from Hardy's past start to turn up dead, and his father's alleged killer is found. Believing that the alleged killer is a patsy, Hardy conducts his own illegal investigation into his father's death, and the women's deaths as well. In a riveting climax, Hardy and the killer ultimately lock horns in a showdown that ties all the loose ends on both cases. Tom Hardy (Bruce Willis) is a maverick cop in pursuit of a sadistic serial killer. Demoted to river patrol after suggesting to the press the killer may be a police officer, he initiates an unauthorized investigation with his new partner (Sarah Jessica Parker). Coming from a police family, Tom Hardy ends up fighting his uncle after the murder of his father. Tom believes the killer is another cop, and goes on the record with his allegations. Demoted then to river duty, the killer taunts Tom. Striking Distance in my opinion is one of Bruce Willis most underrated films to be honest with you, it has some great twists and turns and an ending that was rather unexpected to say the least. Willis is very good in his role and the same goes for Sarah Jessica Parker as his love interest, Robert Pastorelli who is more known for his appearance in the film Eraser (1996) also does a great job and there's a twist regarding his character. Overall great 90's thriller!!! (10/10) I thought this was a pretty good movie. I had higher hopes though before watching it. The movie starts out real good with one of the best car chases I seen in a while. The movie is about a killer murdering girls and then throwing their bodies in the water. They get in a car chase with the killer (the one I mentioned)but he gets away. The cops later bring in an accused killer and Hardy gets mad because he thinks a cop is the killer. He gets in trouble for saying that and is moved down to water patrol. Two years later he is finding bodies in the water. A good mystery (had me fooled). "Striking Distance" has some good action sequences. 6/10. A good movie if you don't mind the same old approach. The original British police force was the Constabulary of Ireland founded in 1822 (later given the royal appointment and renamed the Royal Irish Constabulary). It formed the basis for all other British police forces in the UK and across the British Empire including London's Metropolitan Police (formed in 1829) whose first 2 commissioners were both Irishmen with the necessary prior experience, Palestine Police, Royal Canadian Mounted Police etc. This established a long tradition of law enforcement running in Irish families worldwide, especially as many RIC officers emigrated to America after the violence surrounding Ireland's partition in 1922 and joined police forces there.
