The enormous cave system, known as the Abyss, is the only unexplored place in the world. Nobody knows how deep down goes this titanic pit, inhabited by strange and wondrous creatures and full of mysterious ancient relics which purpose in unknown to modern man. Generations of bold adventurers have been drawn by the cryptic depths of the Abyss. In course of time those bold enough to explore the dangerous pit came to be known as "Cave Raiders." In Orth, the town at the edge of the Abyss, there lives a little orphan named Riko, who dreams of becoming as great a cave raider as her mother was and solving the great mystery of the pit. One day exploring the murky depths she stumbles upon a little boy named Reg, who turns out to be a robot.
I applaud for the amazing animation that's been effortlessly stunning in its backgrounds. However I thought this anime's story was near to jump off the edge because it was really slow and its characters didn't seem that interesting to me. In fact they were confusing and a bit annoying because I couldn't tell what they were at in the "outside" world although all I knew was that the characters were escaping from the orphanage...
Not the best anime I've seen but major improvements in regard to character and storyline development could've made me give a big fat 8 or 9 rating. However I'm going to give this a 4/10!
An absolutely fantastic anime with solid world-building, likable characters, and a gorgeous art style. The first episode immediately pulls you into the show and introduces you to the cast of characters and the beautiful world, and from there on it hooks the viewer with its fantastic lore and world-building, something which many shows are unable to do effectively. I'm telling you, go watch this anime right now; it's a unique gem that you absolutely will not regret watching.
PROS: + Absolutely fantastic art style and music + Great lore building + Characters are all likable and have interesting backstories + Manages to be both cute and serious
CONS: - Some minor pacing issues in the beginning but nothing serious
OVERALL: 10/10
