A half-shark, half-octopus (sharktopus) creature has been scientifically created causes a whole lot of terror in the Dominican Republic while a scientist who helped created it tries to capture and kill it. All while this is happening, a wolf and whale mix (whalewolf) is trying to gain power over the territory and steal it from the sharktopus.
Ah... This is a post-ironic movie or some catchy pseudo-pop-philosophy-catch-phrase that according to some, the awful stenchfullness of this movie, was... Deliberate? Uh-huh...
This obviously shows some intelligence behind Sci-Fy as this denotes some sort of self-awareness on behalf of Sci-Fy.
Mmm.
Never confuse correlation with conclusion, my dad used to say.
So if Sci-Fy is having fun making this movie, poking fun at all the other bad movies it's made, then we're all okay with it, right? No I'm not.
If they're actually making fun of themselves to make this movie, somebody better get a hold of the budget chief at Sci-Fy. And supposing that they ARE so smart as to try this post-self-aware "Let's make fun of ourselves!" gambit, what it really boils down to is that they're laughing at us, not with us.
How this crap gets made is beyond me. As a big Sci-Fy fan, I'd rather sit down with a libation and such on a Saturday Night--steeling myself for yet another sphincter clenching moment of discovering what's on, even though I make IMDb a regular stop after the ice cube tray for just such a reason as Sharktopus!...--just to take in at least the first 5 minutes of such a monumental stinker such as this pile of fecal matter, only to find a text crawl across the screen that amounted to, "Well, we were going to spend a pile of money on yet another bad movie, wasting people's time and most importantly, our viewing audiences, so instead, rational minds prevailed and we donated the money to charity and went home.
And this screen is shown for 2 hours.
I'd sit through the whole thing, rather than watch, "Sharktopus." Herkimer PS. I must admit to those that read this, that I haven't seen the movie. I did catch a few moments after I nicked it from PB, just to see, and promptly deleted it. If the movie moguls are worried about piracy, keep churning out abysmal films like this and they'll have nothing to worry about soon enough.
Roger Corman knows how to entertain, and his signature style is evident in this movie as well.
S-11 the experimental biological weapon based on shark and octopus gene escapes, and causes terror on the beaches of California, and Mexico.
This is one of the best Roger Corman science fiction thriller I've seen. Unlike many movies of this type where you hardly see the monster, this movie has the mutated shark all over the place.
There are plenty of skin to entertain as well. Both good looking men and women parades their body in and out of the water.
Roger Corman never seem to be interested in making artsy movies, but this movie if not artistic is skillfully done with actions at right places, and characters that keeps the story interesting.
This movie is definitely not a bore, and is one of the best movie of this type produced.
Sharktopus, a genetically-engineered half-shark, half-octopus dubbed S-11, created by Blue Water employees Dr Nathan Strands (Eric Roberts) and his daughter Nicole (Sara Malakul Lane) to serve the military, escapes off the coast of Santa Monica, California and makes its way down to Mexican waters where it attacks numerous fishers and beachgoers. Although Strands wants to capture the sharktopus alive, Nicole and ex-Blue Water employee Andy Flynn (Kerem Bürsin) realize that the creature must be destroyed, something easier said than done. Sharktopus is a Syfy channel remake of the 1984 Italian film Shark: Rosso nell'oceano (1984) (Devil Fish). The screenplay for Sharktopus was written by Mike MacLean. An octopus can survive on land for twenty minutes or more and are often reported by aquarium workers or pet owners as having left its cage and taken a walk. Some species have even been seen leaving the water to hunt on land. Sharks cannot survive on land and most species require a steady flow of water over their gills to breath as they lack the muscles to pump water through their gills on their own. The addition of seemingly ornamental spikes on the gills of the sharktopus presumably grants it the magical ability to not suffocate. Yes, he does. Roger Corman can be seen about 12 minutes into the film as the bum who watches as a woman who just found a gold coin in the sand is carried off by the sharktopus, after which the bum shrugs and picks up the coin. Andy and Nicole go after the Sharktopus, following it to a tourist village upstream where the Sharktopus has been ravaging tourists and locals alike. With no bullets or grenades left, Nicole thinks she might be able to access the kill switch with her computer. However, first they must establish a link with with an interface dart to its brain. While Nicole searches for her father's access code, trying first "Sharktopus" then "Octoshark" with no result, Andy shoots it with the dart then tries to fight it off with a stick. Nicole's nickname "Pumpkin" finally lets her in, and just as the creature is about to gobble up Andy, she hits the kill button, blowing the Sharktopus to bits. In the final scene, as a blood-covered Andy joins Nicole, he looks down over the riverbed and says, "That thing better not jump out on us again," to which Nicole replies, "That only happens in the movies." a5c7b9f00b
