Todd Brotzman is having a bad day. His rent is overdue and his landlord is an aggressive, vindictive, destructive man. Then several people are gruesomely murdered in a suite at the hotel he works at and Todd is a prime suspect. When he gets home, he discovers an intruder in his apartment. The intruder is Dirk Gently, holistic detective. Centers on the titular holistic detective who investigates cases involving the supernatural. Based on the "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" novel series, written by Douglas Adams and published by Simon and Schuster in 1987. This show has simply everything: relatable characters, lgbt and poc, mental illness representation. the storylines are so well-written, the show respect its audience and characters. it makes so many people happy and gives them a purpose TLDR; Great show, great characters, go watch it!

I started watching the series yesterday with no prior knowledge of it at all. Never seen the old show or read the books or anything so I can't really comment on if it butchers them. But on it's own I found this series amazing. I'm just shocked that nobody recommended this to me sooner. Now, watching the sunrise from my window, I'm finally done with the last episode of the first season and I'm so glad I gave it a chance.

What do you get when you take Doctor Who, take out huge load of the space/sci-fi stuff and add Frodo from Lord of the Rings as the companion? Apparently you get this show.

Characters are great! Probably it's strongest suit. All of the main characters are interesting and well written and their decisions and roles seem logical. Acting and casting are amazing as far as I'm concerned. Samuel Barnett plays the titular character very kooky and over the top, but just the right amount without going totally overboard (Very similar to Matt Smiths portrayal Doctor in many ways). Both Elijah Wood's and Hannah Marks' characters work really well together and with Dirk and I feel this has some of the best side character I've seen. Ican't but praise the character design on many parts. It's all so different and interesting.But I'll move on so this won't turn into a novel.

The plot is probably what will turn some viewers off. It's pretty wild so far and seems to be getting even crazier for the second season. It might look totally insane after the first episode but I encourage you to stick with it. I think you will find it unravels quite nicely from a total mess into a nice loop. The plot seems well written so far and none of the characters feel obsolete.

So as you have probably gathered if you have got this far I quite like the show. The humor is snappy and well placed and the show doesn't try to hard to be funny. It just kind of is. The show is not quite perfect but I feel it comes close enough that I really recommend watching it.
