An international team of scientists and military personnel discover a Stargate network in the Pegasus Galaxy and come face-to-face with a new, powerful enemy, The Wraith. With the Ancients' city of Atlantis discovered in the Pegasus Galaxy by Stargate Command, Dr. Elizabeth Weir and Major Sheppard lead a scientific expedition to the ancient abandoned city. Once there, the team not only find themselves unable to contact Earth, but their explorations unexpectedly reawaken the Ancients' deadly enemies, The Wraith, who hunger for this new prey. Now with the help of newfound local allies like Teyla Emmagan, the Atlantis Team sets about to uncover their new home's secrets even as their war of survival against the Wraith begins. Having bought the 10 series set of SG1, and enjoyed watching it all, I was very surprised to find I liked this spin-off far more than the original series. The characters are so much better, with Dr Rodney McKay being my favourite, He is brilliant, like Sam but so much more real, as he is also, arrogant, very annoying and he makes mistakes. For me SG1 was spoiled by the character Sam being so perfect, and solving any problem with a brilliant idea, OK its sci-fi but i want believable characters The team in SGA are similar to SG1. Jack and John are both leaders who break the rules and put their team 1st. Sam and Rodney are the brains. Teal'c and Tyler are the aliens who have left their own people. all work very well together, and the stories are varied and interesting. Best of all this series frequently made me laugh, while not a comedy, just the interplay was often very funny. As good as firefly, so thats saying something. It is such a shame that this series did not carry on I felt sure that there were plenty of good story lines left and it had huge ratings and a solid fan base. Perhaps someone can come up with a decent follow up, here is hoping.:-) Sci_fi is not my favourite genre but I can remember watching every episode of Star Trek and all the Trekky movies. It is not an easy subject to get right, do not get annoyed but The Blob, Signs..really ? Yet Close Encounters, Alien, awesome. Let's not churn out programmes just for the sake of it there must be a plethora of up and coming writers out there with. some inspiring and creative ideas. Here,s to the next generation.
