After the grisly murder of one of his employees, senior manager of the local Glenview Costco store, Evan, decides to take action, forming a neighbourhood watch consisted of the fellow suburbanites and residents, Bob, Franklin, and Jamarcus. Not exactly police material, the unlikely band of hopeful protectors of justice in their fancy new jackets will soon have to deal with the unexpected when mysterious traces of a translucent green goo lead to the conclusion that earth is under an extraterrestrial threat. So, you'd better shape up boys, because, whether you like it or not, you're humanity's last chance. But, are Evan and the guys up to the job?
Four men who form a neighborhood watch group as a way to get out of their day-to-day family routines find themselves defending the Earth from an alien invasion.
The Watch is a strange one!
At first, it seems to be striving hard for laughs. Its slow, and almost loses you in the first ten minutes which isn't good.
But then you start to catch on as to how this should be viewed, and there is quite an endless amount of actual laugh-out-loud moments that pulls you back in.
Even British comedian Richard Ayoade, of whom I am a huge fan, seems slightly out of place given the foul mouthed script from comedy drug king Seth Rogen, but still gives plenty of laughs and surprises throughout.
That said, it comes across quite serious at times which can trick you after such laughs.
Not what I was expecting at all, but still very enjoyable!

This has a great premise, a great cast, lots of potential but is ultimately a bit of a let down.
Although there are some clever ideas and some funny moments the film has a general sloppy feel about it. A lot of the scenes are very obviously ad-libbed making the dialogue quite painful at times. The story also is random. I can easily imagine some school kids writing it in their lunch break. Either that or plot components were drawn at random from a top-hat.
It has most of the elements of a modern comedy. i.e most of the funny moments are in the trailer, Ben Stiller plays the same tired character he has been flogging since Something About Mary and everyone else says vagina a lot.
What's onscreen feels as half-assed and juvenile as it was probably always envisioned to be, suggesting an umpteenth retelling of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" by way of "The Hangover," or perhaps a far less inspired version of "Attack the Block" transplanted to small-town Ohio.
