Ben must prove he is good enough to date cop James' sister. By doing this he goes on a "Ride Along" to show that he is not weak and he will do whatever it takes to get James' approval but along the way runs into a few obstacles that he has to overcome in a very funny way.
Security guard Ben must prove himself to his girlfriend's brother, top police officer James. He rides along James on a 24-hour patrol of Atlanta.
Ben(Kevin Hart) a security guard, who is trying to prove a cop named James(Ice Cube) that he is good enough for his sister, who Ben is currently dating, and wants to marry. Ben wants to become a cop, so James takes Ben along for patrol ride. Ben hopes to prove to James that he is good enough for his worthy enough for his sisters love.
I liked the comic chemistry that Cube and Hart had, they just played off each perfectly. But there times some moments that where too predicable, I mean even before they happen you can pretty see it coming. But all in all a enjoyable flick, never tries to hard to be something it's not. Not as good The Heat(2013), but almost gets there.
. . . how to be funny in a movie without relying 100% on racist and/or dirty jokes, as was the case in all of Hart's previous films and stand-up comedy routines in which he was given top or second billing. I suppose some of the credit should go to whoever wrote the screenplay, but the same number of guys are listed here for doing that as the number of men who wrote "Gospels According to . . . " in the Holy Bible. The miraculous survival of Cube's and Hart's characters until the end of this story also must be accepted on Faith rather than Reason, but that's the case with most of Hollywood's "action" movies these days. I only noticed one "Black-on-Black Assault" (that is, use of the "N-word"), which also is an improvement for Hart. This flick gets funnier as it goes along (which cannot be said about the last two HANGOVER flicks). RIDE ALONG's dialog specifically mentions TRAINING DAY, which it's consciously spoofing. Gameboys (and girls) everywhere especially will enjoy RIDE ALONG.
Ride Along tries to be a comic version of “Training Day,” only there’s nothing in it as funny as Denzel razzing Ethan. There’s nothing much funny in it at all.
