In New York City, people are slain and strangled to death brutally on the open street. All witnesses agree that the murderer was in a cop's uniform. Soon the police searches and finds a suspect in its own ranks: Jack Forrest, turned in by his own wife. To prove his innocence, he has to investigate on his own.
Innocent people are being brutally murdered on the streets of New York City by a uniformed police officer. As the death toll rises and City Hall attempts a cover-up, Frank McCrae heads the investigation. A young cop, Jack Forrest, finds himself under arrest as the chief suspect, having been the victim of a set-up by the real killer and a mysterious woman phone-caller. Forrest, his girlfriend Theresa, and McCrae set out to solve the puzzle before the Maniac Cop can strike again.
A person dressed in a police officer uniform with supernatural like abilities is killing everyday normal citizens and a local officer is finding himself framed for the murders. Very crudely made and featuring so so acting, this film entertains far more then it should. It is always exciting and features just enough creepy moments to make it so you are never bored, despite the fact that hardly any of it makes much sense, especially the ending. Rated R.
The plot was original enough and the low budget gave the film character and heart. Bruce Campbell and Richard Roundtree were awesome with of course a great supporting cast and some pretty good writing. If one likes cop flicks and horror movies then this is a great combination that shouldn't be missed!
In Japan a special cut was aired for television that features several prolonged story pieces that can't be found in the Theatrical Version of this movie. This adds up to a toal difference of nearly six minutes between both cuts.
