Sean Boswell, who has always been an outsider. A loner at school, his only connection to the indifferent world around him is through illegal street racing -- which has made him particularly unpopular with the local authorities. To avoid jail time, Sean is sent out of the country to live with his Farther in the military, in a cramped apartment in a low-rent section of Tokyo. In the land that gave birth to the majority of modified racers on the road, the simple street race has been replaced by the ultimate pedal-to-the-metal, gravity-defying automotive challenge ... drift racing, a deadly combination of brutal speed on heart stopping courses of hairpin turns and switchbacks. For his first unsuccessful foray in drift racing, Shean unknowingly takes on D.K., the "Drift King," with ties to the Yakuza, the Japanese crime machine. The only way he can pay off the debt of his loss is to venture into the deadly realm of the Tokyo underworld, where the stakes are life and death. After totaling his car in an illegal street race, Shaun Boswell is sent to live with his father, who is in the military, in Tokyo, Japan, to avoid juvy or even jail. While in school, he befriends Twinkie, a "military brat." Twinkie introduces him to the world of racing in Japan. Though forbidden to drive, he decides to race against D.K., the "Drift King", who has ties to the Yakuza, and loses, totaling the car because of his lack of knowledge of drifting, racing that involves dangerous hair pin turns. To repay his debt, he enters the underground world of drift street racing. As he becomes better and better, he must finally prove his worth in that world by once again racing D.K. I saw the very first Fast and The Furious a lot of years ago and I only remember I didn't like it at all. I'm just not a car guy, I don't known the difference between an engine block and a car stump and Nascar or any car racing usually bores me to tears. I never even bothered seeing the second installment of this series and I had no desire at all to see this third one despite my love for movies which eventually is what caused me to see it. I had nothing else to see and I really wanted to go to the movies so there I was sitting in the theater and all car movies are usually described as "High Octane" but Fast and The Furious Tokyo Drift defines that!! How great is it when a film you have such low expectations of turns out to be incredible?? That's exactly what happened for me with this film. Not only are the car race and chase scenes edge of your seat, beautifully and brilliantly choreographed, but the story is really good!! The performances from the cast are also really good. It was an all around great movie that is definitely worthy of a night out.

Lucas Black who has done some great work as of recently in Jarhead, and Cold Mountain plays country boy who loves his cars Sean Boswell. Black plays Boswell like the absolutely perfect hero. He's rough, tough, don't mess with him, but at the same time, loyal, handsome, even suave in a country kind of way. And on top of that he's completely out of his element by dropping into the high speed world of Tokyo street racing and Tokyo in general. Such a huge part of the greatness of this film is seeing this boy completely out of his element determined to win back the thing he knows best...racing. He's never quite the underdog but you absolutely root for him. Black does a really great job and I think this film could really be a stepping stone for him to leading man status. Newcomer Nathalie Kelley plays Black's love interest, and racing fanatic herself Neela. Now for an actress, especially a newcomer to hold her own in an absolutely testosterone driven film is pretty impressive and she does exactly that. I still wouldn't say her performance is fem-powered, I mean the girls are still somewhat trivialized as "car-babes" but for the only leading female role she does very well. Her and Black's character have good strong chemistry and she drives with the best of them when you finally see her behind the wheel. I am positive you haven't seen the last of Nathalie Kelley. Bow Wow (formerly Lil) plays hustler Twinkie (Twink.) I have to say that Bow Wow is not one of the stronger performances in the film. He does alright but he is definitely overshadowed but strong performances by Black in the lead role and the other characters around him. His character I think is a lot weaker than the others and it makes it hard to be a decent role. Mostly a TV actor Brian Tee plays bad guy/tough guy D.K. (Drift King.) He is absolutely excellent as the bad guy, even though he does come across as something of a schmuck, I think that's the idea. He is the perfect contrast and adversary to Black's Sean Boswell. D.K. is everything that Boswell isn't and has his girl, his talent, and his cars. I would like to see Tee in a hardcore bad guy role in the future, he was excellent and you hated him but knew it was going to be fun to watch him get his in the end. Sung Kang is terrific as D.K.'s business partner but also adversary secretly. Kang plays Han who immediately takes to Sean Boswell and brings him aboard convinced he is a trustworthy person to have on his side which definitely turns out to be true. Kang's performance is subtle, quiet, but really good. He is a mentor and kind of an anti-hero in many ways. Great performance!!

Director Justin Lin captures the Asian street world in such a way that it just draws you in. Scenes of Tokyo alone are stunning and seeing Lucas Black's character dealing with not only the street world but school and every day life in a completely foreign atmosphere gives this film so much more than just car racing. It has such depth and really an interesting and powerful movie. I don't know if it's action or drama but somewhere in the middle is something that for a third installment to a series about car racing is so impressive!! And even myself NOT being a fan of the series the twist surprise cameo at the end was awesome and brought a smile to my face since there was no real connection to the other films until that moment. Beginning to end it locked me in and left me on the edge of my seat with amazing performances, terrific scenery and direction and great characters. Absolutely worthy of seeing!! I may even go back and try the first two again in honor of this one. 9/10 I was fortunate enough to see an advance screening of the film last night. I'm not usually one to seek out action films but this one seemed different. First of all, the setting was intriguing. Secondly, trailer made it out to be a fun summer flick. And guess what? It delivers. I would strongly recommend this movie to be seen in a theater as opposed to DVD for one huge reason: the audience. I can't remember the last time I was in a movie theater laughing, cheering, and gasping with everyone else. That environment is what these movies are made for. I loved the first fifteen minutes of the film. From the creepy pep rally to the metal detectors, the film was able to slip a little social commentary. The first race in the construction site was not only amazing but a great comment on capitalism. Even if the rest of the film doesn't quite live up to the beginning it doesn't matter. The film flows effortlessly and what would have been contrived just feels real. I know these films get all the feminists all up in arms but hey, beautiful girls exist in this world and the way it's shot it never feels exploitive. Enough of the politics. Grab a few friends and try to watch it with a sellout crowd. You won't be disappointed. Manna from gearhead heaven, the third and most guiltily pleasurable Furious emits the crude thrills of a 1950s drag-racing cheapie, only with souped-up Toyotas and Nissans in place of gas-guzzling hot rods, and slinky Asian temptresses substituted for poodle-skirted teenyboppers. After getting in trouble (again) with the police for street racing, Alabama teenager Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) is shipped off to live with his father (Brian Goodman) in Tokyo, Japan, with the understanding that he will not have anything to do with cars. Unfortunately, he is attracted to Neela (Nathalie Kelley), the girlfriend of Takashi (Brian Tee), also known as "Drift King" or just DK, who has ties to the Yakuza (the Japanese mafia). When Sean is drawn into drift racing against DK and winds up totaling the car he borrowed from Han (Sung Kang), Takashi's business partner, he enters the world of drift racing and the Yakuza in order to pay off his debt. Tokyo Drift is the third movie in the Fast and Furious franchise, preceded by The Fast and the Furious (2001) (2001) and 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) (2003), and followed by Fast & Furious (2009) (2009), Fast Five (2011) (2011), Furious 6 (2013) (2013), Furious Seven (2015) (2015), and The Fate of the Furious (2017) (2017).. The screenplay for Tokyo Drift was written by American screenwriter Chris Morgan. The Fast and Furious franchise is loosely based on a May, 1998 Vibe magazine article about illegal street racing, "Racer X", by Ken Li. The only one returning is Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) in a cameo at the end of the film. All of the other characters are new. 'Drift' refers to the sliding motion that a car takes when it races around a corner. In 'drift racing', the object is to drift while controlling the car during the slide. Paint is forced from the paint guns using a compressed air feed, which usually just blows cold air (there is no point in pre-heating paint since the car will be 'baked' in an oven to set the paint finish). It's possible the paint could be so cold as to be uncomfortable when coming into contact with bare skin, though it's more likely the boy's discomfort is simply due to the bullying to which he is being subjected. Twinkie (Shad Moss) drives a green 2004 Volkswagen Touran. In order to make peace with Uncle Kamata (Shin'ichi Chiba), Sean proposes a race between him and DK with the loser agreeing to leave Tokyo. Sean puts the engine from Han's smashed up Nissan Silvia into his father's 1967 Ford Mustang GT, and DK picks the route, a winding mountain road on which he's the only one to ever make it down. The race begins, and DK immediately pulls in front but, during a near crash, Sean manages to take over the lead. DK tries to force Sean's car off the road, but Sean hangs in there, switching leads a number of times until DK's car suddenly flips over and plunges down an embankment, almost landing on top of Sean's car. When it is clear that Sean is the winner, Kamata tells him that he is free to go. Some time later, Sean has been named the new 'Drift King.' Twinkie informs him that a friend of Han's wants to race him, and Sean agrees. The challenger drives up and a silver 1970 Plymouth Satellite and is revealed to be none other than Dom Torretto. Sean compliments his ride and informs him that it's not a 10 second race to which Dom replies, 'I got nothin' but time,.' And so, the race begins. a5c7b9f00b
