Nuclear explosions force the residents of a New York apartment block to run from the building. However, the explosions force them into a basement. Eight residents are holed up in the building's bomb shelter. They must acclimatise to each other in difficult, cramped conditions.
Survivors of a nuclear attack are grouped together for days in the basement of their apartment building, where fear and dwindling supplies wear away at their dynamic.
I realize that a certain amount of reality has to be suspended to enjoy a movie of this (or pretty much any) genre, but seriously: no one else noticed the time discrepancies? Bodies take that long to decay (or decay that quickly, depending on which wormhole of this movie you enter)? They go 5150 apesh-t crazy before the one woman even has her first post- apocalyptic period? This is like a Lord of the Flies weekend cruise. Nobody loses their mind this quickly. Likewise, no one is so calm and collected immediately after a nuclear strike as certain characters seem to be in the first couple of minutes (which somehow very quickly decline into barbarism) of this film.
There's no backstory for any of the characters, and you kind of just have to figure it out on your own. Some of the dynamics never make sense, but it's okay, because you really don't care. Everyone is kind of a jerk to begin with and become increasingly more off-putting as the story unfolds, with the exception of a couple characters, who are enigmatic and spend most of their time staring off with a wistful, pained expression on their face, indicating that they are less neanderthal than their counterparts in this post-apocalyptic basement. It's very deep.
It can all be summed up in the three words that myself and my viewing partners kept repeating: "are you serious?"
A film is like life or should be completely unpredictable as this film was.We don't know in life what the other person truly thinks or why the government does what it does A nuclear war could start tonight without any warning or most of the population not knowing why and never knowing why they are dying from the after effects .Like life people you think are pleasant will turn on you or go barking mad . This film I found to be true of human nature as a whole we put on a mask when we are with others when our comfort zone is taken away we think only of ourselves .A fantastic true description of the human animal, yes it has its faults,but it was made by humans.
In Xavier Gens's The Divide, the revolution will not be televised, only the degradation of human civility--and in a mire of clichés more toxic to the mind than the radioactive dust that causes everyone's hair to fall out in the wake of a nuclear explosion.
When comparing both versions, we see that the unrated cut contains material that's more or less helpful for character development. Towards the climax of the movie, it becomes apparent that the R-Rated misses some scenes that take some of the sick intensity of the events (e.g. the second sex scene). a5c7b9f00b
