In 2015, 15 years after the enormous catastrophe that killed half of the world population, another crisis has come - the unidentified invaders called "Angels" begin to attack human-kind. Any of their weapons are useless against the so-called "Absolute Terror Field". But now human-kind had created an exception;the ultimate all-purpose humanoid weapon "Evangelion". To operate this exception needs the minds of "Children", 14-year-old juveniles. Shinji Ikari, the only son of the commander-in-chief of the team that administered Evangelion, is selected as the third of the "Children"...!
When the Angels start attacking the planet Earth in the year 2015, only a handful of 14-year-old EVA pilots are able to stop them. Young Shinji Ikari suddenly finds himself forced to pilot EVA-01, a giant organic mecha, designed and constructed by NERV, that is the only thing that can stop the Angels.
If you've read this far, you've already heard praises for the animation and characters and storyline, and though I could do my own bit of gushing, it wouldn't tell you anything new, so I'll simply respond to criticisms of the TV ending. Unlike many, I thought it was brilliant the first time I saw it, and after watching those last episodes several more times, they only get better. Sure, they aren't filled with action like previous episodes, and they don't give convienient Hollywood-style answers to the myriad questions the series raises, but y'know what? Though they may leave Misato, Rei, & Askua's fate somewhat vague, they resolve Shinji's character, which is the most important aspect of the show. The viewer has to figure out things in his or her own mind, which leads to the best aspect of the entire Eva series: Even a year after seing it in its entirity, I can still have long and thought-provoking conversations about it with my friends. I can't think of a single film, series or novel that I can say as much about.
Okay, this anime was very weird.... I saw it and got hooked to it and basically, it has this boring character who cries like a wimp sometimes and he's the protagonist. I like Asuka better she was very entertaining with her boisterous attitude and very funny and pretty, too. Sometimes she did get annoying like how she whined when he didn't hug her or something while she was kissing and her outgoingness. But I think it would've been better if Asuka came on earlier, I skipped to that episode where she first came on so I won't get bored.
There is a lot of nudity in it and language and I just didn't like it very much.
Well, the characters did grow and change a bit, they got a little better but still pretty mediocre. They all had deep pasts. The earlier episodes were silly like generic anime.
I watched the mediocre English dub and I don't know if this is true but I thought that the characters weren't distinct and Asuka's voice was very whiny, her emotions were a little off probably. Though, it was good.
I don't consider this anime one of the best ones. About all of the characters in there were disappointingly flawed and the last few episodes were the worst.
