When the Stargate team goes to see Ba'al, the last of the System Lords, being extracted from his host. All of a sudden, Tealc, Vala and all of their allies start to vanish. Later Carter, Daniel, and Mitchell try to escape through the Stargate but find themselves not on earth but on a ship trapped beneath the polar ice cap. They learn they are on the freighter that was delivering the Stargate found in Egypt in 1939 to America. The ship is about to sink and they evacuate. They are picked up by a submarine and brought to a Naval Base where they learn the SG project never happened. They try to warn the government that the Gouald might attack earth. But the government doesn't believe and tells them that they're being released and given new identities and not to talk to each other or about their previous alternate timeline . One year later, the Gouald attack and the government asks for their help.
Ba'al travels back in time and prevents the Stargate program from being started. SG-1 must somehow restore history.
The stargate features prominently in this movie. That's as it should be.
As with the first made for TV movie, this one carries a sense of mystery and wonder not seen in seasons 9 or 10 of SG-1.
It's 8 rather than 10 because of a few problems. It's easy to kill off main characters, in slo mo no less, when everything will reset. The second problem is the cop out on having characters meet themselves. Key people are killed - Jack in a lame way - to ensure they don't meet themselves, while others are conveniently out of the way. Cheap! The final problem is a slow middle. When Cam, Sam and Daniel are forced into normal lives, without contact with each other, the movie slows to a crawl. It's as if the writers needed a little bit more, so they added useless padding.
The movie continued the tradition of killing Ba'al. He dies multiple times.

After having watched the build-up to this release, and finally seeing the movie, I find I am quite deflated. I read another comment on here that Continuum is better than Ark. I disagree. In comparing the two, the plot line of Ark while having to "overtly tie up loose ends from the series" was more complex requiring the use of your brain. Ark made you stop and think. Continuum is just fluff.
Once they are found in the Artic, it goes right off the rails into (insert your word for nonsensical foolishness here). Mr. Wright did not remain faithful to his series and the spirit of the show itself. While they all end up back in the "right" time line again, the road to get there was paved with serious sinkholes. It lacks so much of the real SG-1's gumption. They quit, which surprised me with Mitchell's "quitter talk" line actually being just before the fiasco. The SG-1 I have come to know and love would never have taken being separated and told what they could and could not do like that lying down. They would have found a way to get around it even with the opposition they encountered with O'Neill, Landry, Hayes, and Hammond (that "if you say so" line was so not good). Granted, they were in a time line where the Stargate program never happened, even so, SG-1 got out of worse messes in the series. I also get the sense that the actors also knew it and so their hearts either were not in it or they actually did not know how to make their characters be quitters.
While I purchased the DVD because I have the entire collection, it will most likely gather dust.
According to a news release at Stargate Worlds (the site for the upcoming SG MMORPG), this movie will be released on DVD/BluRay on July 29th.
