TRAIN TO BUSAN is a harrowing zombie horror-thriller that follows a group of terrified passengers fighting their way through a countrywide viral outbreak while trapped on a suspicion-filled, blood-drenched bullet train ride to Busan, a southern resort city that has managed to hold off the zombie hordes... or so everyone hopes.
Pure waste of time. Traditional cliché. Korean version of Hollywood movie ideas. It became boring 20 years ago. If in the ending, those soldiers would kill both of those survivors, then it would be more inspiring, and worth at least 6 out of 10. In a real zombie event, numerous innocent people would die. the correct decision should be selfish in order to survive in extreme events, such as war. The movie is trying to sell the idea of being selfless during war, which is completely unpractical. Traditional cliché, main actors always survive. (Strongly suggest "Expect the unexpected", where everyone die at the end.) There is no innovation in this movie, the story line is copied from "World war Z". This movie might do well in a domestic level, but it is far less qualified even to premiere in an international level. I would have given it 1 out of 10. But the ending tunnel part has some innovation, so final score is 4 out of 10. Bad cutting from director, if I were the director, I would have end the movie at the tunnel. At least it would end with possibilities, where I would mark the film 6 out of 10. Draw a Snake and Add Feet to It
I am not a fan of Zombie movies, like some of the other reviewers on here, which says a lot about the entertainment and production value of Train to Busan when I can safely say I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It's nice to see Zombies away from that post-apocalyptic urban setting where most of them would be in dark alleyways or lurking in abandoned apartments. Here we are in a train with a bunch of likable and memorable characters as the zombie outbreak happens, and there's little suspense but plenty of quick action in each scene. This is again an accomplishment since quick sequences of action one after the other is harder to get right without leaving mistakes for the audience to point out.
That doesn't mean this movie doesn't resort to many zombie tropes, in the sort of way that makes you think it is consciously doing so. But that's all fun and good. The fast, bone cracking zombie acrobats are also captivating.
For me, it's biggest accomplishment would be to put so much emotion and meaning in the death of one character at a point in the film when most of the audience would be desensitized to death. Yes, this movie was the first in a LONG time to make me tear up.
So, whether you like Zombie movies or not, give Train to Busan a try. It may not be entirely logical, but its good fun and easy on the eyes.
Best of all, the story moves as fast as that bullet train, careening from one impossible predicament to the next while the characters jostle to survive.
