After months of fighting, a multinational military force of the Allied Nations has managed to enter the city. The AN is fighting against the armed forces of drug-lord turned the evil warlord General M. Bison, who has recently captured a couple of dozen AN workers. Bison makes his demands in a live two-way TV broadcast with William F. Guile, the commander of the AN forces. If he is not paid $20 billion in three days he will kill the hostages! And so Guile and M. Bison will be facing off in the ultimate final showdown!
Col. William Guile leads an army of soldiers into the country of Shadaloo to find traces to lead him to General M. Bison, who has captured many people including three missing soldiers. Among them is Carlos "Charlie" Blanka, in which Bison decides to turn into a hideous mutant. On the other hand, Chun Li is a reporter who seeks revenge against Bison for the death of her father years ago. Then two small time hustlers Ryu and Ken, are arrested along with Sagat, a powerful arms dealer and Vega for dealing of illegal weapons. Guile recruits them in order to find Bison's base. Now Guile, T. Hawk, Cammy, Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Balrog and E. Honda have three days before Bison murders the hostages and takes over the world.
It's a shame that they turned the world's best fighting game into one of the worst movies ever. Well, when you think about it there has never been one good or even a decent movie based on any video game. "Mortal Kombat" sucked. "Resident Evil" stank. And "Tomb Raider" bored the hell out of me. All those movies were bad, but "Street Fighter" is in a class of its own. Crappy fighting, crappy acting, an Oscar worthy plot and ensemble cast (ha ha) and Van Damme as Guile. What a joke. And if you thought that was hilarious, check out Gomez Addams himself as the sinister M. Bison. Then there is Blanka (played here by the Incredible Hulk...I think) who looks utterly laughable. The movie has absolutely no continuity with the game showing a true lack of any knowledge about the source material. Bottomline: avoid this movie.
For some reason Street Fighter: The Movie has a terrible reputation but I think it is a brilliant action comedy. It never takes itself seriously and is always good fun to watch and that maybe why so many people hate the film.
This isn't a great action movie and everything feels very cartoonish. The action is passable but nothing better than that. Jean-Claude Van Damme isn't at his best here but is OK. It is Raul Julia as Bison who is a joy to watch. He is over the top but in a good way, with some great one liners. Such a pity this was his last film.
Anyone who wants to see this movie needs to go in with an open mind. It isn't a great video game movie, it is a very funny action comedy and will worth checking out on a rainy day.
Due to the low rating the British BBFC 12 Version was censored in several action scenes: the breaking of bones is missing and some fighting moves as well. In a fight with a guard, bags of liquid marked "DNA mutagens use extreme caution" are accidentally spilled on him. a5c7b9f00b
