Truck driver Jack Burton arrives in Chinatown, San Francisco, and goes to the airport with his Chinese friend Wang Chi to welcome his green-eyed fiancée Miao Yin who is arriving from China. However she is kidnapped on the arrival by a Chinese street gang and Jack and Wang chase the group. Soon they learn that the powerful evil sorcerer called David Lo Pan, who has been cursed more than two thousand years ago to exist without physical body, needs to marry a woman with green eyes to retrieve his physical body and Miao is the chosen one. Jack and Wang team-up with the lawyer Gracie Law, the bus driver and sorcerer apprentice Egg Shen and their friends and embark in a great adventure in the underground of Chinatown, where they face a world of magicians and magic, monsters and martial arts fighters. Wang chi's girlfriend has been kidnapped because she has emerald green eyes and has been selected to be Lo Pan's (an immortal creature) wife. By marrying her, Lo Pan can now become mortal again. So it's up to Jack Burten, Egg Shen, Wong and his friends to save her before it's too late. This movie has almost every genre elements to make it a entertaining movie. Action, Martial arts, comedy, fantasy, sci fi, adventure and even a little scruffy romance. The script is daft, but it is suppose to be a supernatural movie. If this film has a bad plot then why did Matrix and Lord of the Rings become Big Hits. Kurt Russel in a Fabulous enjoyable role as the not so quick truck driver. The rest of the cast are quite unknown but deliver some fun moments in the film. The fictional baddies are ever so entertaining. Each of them have their own weapon and style, whether the main sorcerer, Lightnings (looks like raidon from Mortal Kombat), Beast and eye. 2 hours of non stop fun adventure in this great classic Carpenter movie. this movie took about four years to grow on me. now it is one of my favorites. it is a movie that defies pigeonholing, classification, or definition. when people ask about it, i just say: rent it and watch it. i hope the dvd release (when it happens) will be a collector's edition, not a disappointment like the just released escape from new york. i can't wait. Big Trouble in Little China is a far more enjoyable mash-up of classic Westerns, Saturday-morning serials, and Chinese wu xia than any of the Indiana Jones movies, with Kurt Russell in full bloom as Carpenter’s de rigueur hard-drinkin’, hard-gamblin’, wise-crackin’ loner hero—a bowling-alley John Wayne. It is unknown and totally up for personal opinion. Some believe that he was attacked and killed by the beast hitching a ride on his truck, whereas others are confident that Jack would have defeated the creature and continued on his journey. At one point, a sequel was announced, but later scrapped, starring Kurt Russell. This would suggest that Jack Burton was alive and lived to fight another day. Upon seeing that Lo-Pan's has been killed, out of sadness and anger, he either lost temper and uncontrollably exploded, or allowed himself to explode on purpose in order to commit suicide. The Theatrical Version lacks the Kurt Russel comment "Fuck it!". The later released VHS contains this comment but lacks some other footage of the turf war between the two clans.
